I've been told under NO circumstance will Infiniti pay for a new pressure plate and/or friction disc even if the car only has 100 miles on it!!!!!!!!!
Back last year I had the dreaded problem where the pedal would stick to the floor and they replaced the clutch master cylinder (ignoring the slave cylinder all-together), whereas I'd replaced the entire system. Back then the clutch was slipping BAAAAAAAAD when this would happen, sometimes to the point of smoking, and a number of times (not all the time) it would at
Long story short, the master cylinder fixed the problem as far as the clutch pedal staying on the floor, or half-way up. But the damage was already done to the disc itself.
Fast forward... I go in a few weeks ago and spoke with them about it never being the same since it was smoking the clutch last year and although I'd learned to just baby it but it slips EVERY SINGLE TIME you try to get down on it with VDC off. There is no way around it, put power to the ground like the car is meant to be driven (not RACING, just spirited driving) considering our cars ARE TRUE 2+2 coupes and should indeed be able to withstand maximum throttle runs here and there. Making SURE that I stressed we're not talking about doing burnouts here, just getting traction off the line and gunning it through the gears. (Which I've been doing for over 40 years now (having another dreaded B-day tomorrow) as I started driving a clutch in my Dad's 63 Econoline work van when I was 9. And YES I have a very thorough grasp on how to drive a stick.)
The dealership I use is and has been very good to me so I'm not complaining about them per say, just repeating what I was told. And that was, "Infiniti will NOT approve a clutch replacement under any situation at all. (As it applies to the drivers use I was told.)
The story that went with that statement was a lady came in with a car that se bought the day before, with 90 miles on it claiming it was burned up and slipping. Which INDEED it was according to the Service writer. He said he rode with the lady and she was the type that would feather the clutch at a stop, even on a hill, rather than pressing it in and using the brake to hold the car at a stop. None the less, even under the 12 months/12,000 miles bumper to bumper, THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE CLUTCH!
Needless to say I was a bit miffed. He went on to say that it's considered like tires and brakes. Actually went as far as to say you can get the brakes replaced easier than the clutch. (I'm assuming you'd need to show that a caliper was sticking which isn't all that rare for a piston to get a little cocked in the bore.)
He did tell me I could bring my own clutch in and they'd provide the labor. NO FREAKING $HIT! "In fact we have had a number of guys doing upgrades to lighter flywheels and new clutches that we've done that for.", was his statement. "Just bring it in, we'll be happy to do the clutch and exhaust all at one time if you want." OH yeahhhhhh.... end up paying more for labor than I would for the clutch assembly, springs, sways AND exhaust!
