I've had two Alienware's in the past. One desktop and one laptop, and I loved them. You all are forgetting pretty much one thing when building your own computer: Warranty.
Alienware's come with a warranty, I'm not sure how long. If anything is wrong, you call and get help and they will sit on the phone for hours with you to fix the problem and guide you through whatever problems you encounter. They even helped me RAID 0 two harddrive I never even bought through them.
To the OP, I can't help with your problem, but if you don't want to build your own system - don't.

My comp was about $1900 8 months ago and it gets 5.9 in every area on vista rating except one, it gets a 5.6 or 5.7 on cpu performance. If you were going to spend 3k on a computer you could get something much better than what you listed from alienware.
