Carrying a firearm in many states is carrying, whether visible or concealed. Some stated prohibit carrying openly, and some have lower standards for open carry compared to concealed.
Additionally, each state has limits on where a person can carry. In a southern state, one can not carry if the establishment generates 51% or more of their revenue from on-premise consumption of alcohol. In Mass, one can not carry in a school or while "intoxicated" by liquor. Many federal buildings are off-limits to civilian firearms.
It varies from state to state.
You're getting into a 200+ year debate over 2A rights that will continue long after your guns and mine are rusted and worthless.
