g35 oil change
k so basically my car needs an oil change, i don't wanna take it into a shop since doing it myself would be cheaper, i have changed the oil on a car before but these were older cars and this was a while ago, does anyone know how easy/ hard it is? or anything special i need to know? or how hard it is to get the filer out? and should i use synthetic? ive been using synthetic but i dont know if i need to be, i also use 91 octane each time i fill up can i be using 89? (just thought id throw that in there since gas is going back up)
- thanks

If your car is using syn already, stay with syn and don't go back to conventional. Honestly all these debates on oil is pointless, there's never a correct answer as all oils sold to retailers have to pass a standard. If you have time and want to compare which oil is better, here's a thread for you (http://my350z.com/forum/vq35hr/30038...-analysis.html)
Here's a video on how to change your oil. I believe he's a member on here also :

Its a piece of cake. My first oil change on any car was the G, just follow the video and you will be fine.
I searched for the best Sync Oil and I found AMSOil to be the best, but none sold nearby.sooo more searching became M1 vs Castrol Syntec full synthetic. And According to another G driver in Florida Castrol was the better one. According to wear numbers. But all of the synthcs are good.
Just find a deal at your local auto store/walmart 35 bucks with 5qrts and filter.
Stay away from the cheap filters thats about it.
Good Luck

Twilight, just get a few of those copper crush washers at the dealer (Infiniti or Nissan), they're cheap.
Since the filter mounts horizontally, that can be a messy proposition. It'll fill up when the engine starts. Did my wife's SUV today, the G gets her 5W30 Amsoil synth and Wix filter tomorrow.

The one thing that was kind of a pain when changing the oil was the plastic splash guard. There is a hole in the guard for the drain plug and filter, but it isn't quite as large as it should be. It is fine for getting at the drain plug and draining the oil, but you can just barely loosen the filter with a filter wrench and it's really awkward to put the filter back on. I also got a bunch of oil on the top side of the splash guard when I first pulled the filter off.
Make sure you have a filter wrench, as there isn't any room to get in there with your hands. I had to use the wrench to put it back on too, because I couldn't get my hand in there to get good leverage on it.
Of course, you could take the splash guard off if you'd prefer removing and replacing the 30 screws rather than dealing with the oil filter awkwardness.
