1) Clear all memories by pressing and holding first and third buttons until it rapidly blinks.
2) Press and hold any of the three buttons simultaneously with your garage door opener. You can let go of the garage door opener right away but hold the homelink buttons you are teaching until it blinks
3) Go to the rear of your garage motor button and press the bypass (learn button). this will allow your garage door opener to temporarily allow new remotes to be stored.
4) Within 30 seconds, go and press the homeilnk button you just taught in step 2, make sure you hold it for a few seconds.
This should successfully teach your homelink mirror and open/close your garage door depending what position it was at.

No, you need the sensor from the remote to communicate to the Homelink in your car. The manual suggest a few inches from the mirror.

I just did mine a few days ago.. It may vary for other people, but literally all I did was go into my garage, climb up to the motor/light/box thing that pulls oyur door up, looked for a program/learn button, it'll say either program or learn, basically look for a button that will help you set up a remote basically. Then press that, then run over to your car and whichever button your decide to program, jut hold that button down for about two or three seconds, then let it go for about two or three seconds, then keep repeating that until the door starts to close. It was extremely simple, so if this works for anyone else, let us know! It worked for me, so let's hear from others..

New garage doors utilizing new rotating code scheme. Holding remote button long enough to capture the code actually reprograms the remote button function. Have new Genie and was unable to program Homelink buttons despite help from Homelink and Genie! Technology of remotes changed and aren't compatible w/ the older Homelinks. Too bad you can't upgrade the Homelink firmware on the car.
