One question.

You used a direct RCA connection instead of a line out converter from the rear speaker lines.

Is that because of the balanced/unbalanced deal on the amp?

RCA connections are used when the audio signal is acquired from th OEM harness before the signal enters the Bose amp. That signal is already at line level (and a low line level at that) so no LOC is needed. It is better to tap into the signal before it enters the Bose amp.

If you tap into the audio signal after it leaves the Bose amp, then you need an LOC.

Yikes so im a bit confused about the tapping into the signal wires.

I am trying to transfer my old system to the g and i have a full wiring kit from that. I would like to be able to reuse the rca cables from the kit. If I were to cut into my rca's at one side, there is a red and white plug in for left and right (not sure which is which). So with that I would hopefully find 2 wires in each and just attach them to either of the corresponding side wires from the connector?

I apologize for the confusing wording, I do have experience installing subwoofers but never had to deal with a stock bose headunit with no aux's.

Yep thats right. I went to radioshack ans got some in-line splicers, made it a whole lot easier.

I used this DIY to install a JL Audio 12w3v1 and a Visonik amp in my 03 coupe yesterday. Thanks a million for the instructions, it made it SO MUCH EASIER than any install I've ever done before.

I do need to find a better enclosure - I just used a prefab box I already had and it takes up way too much space in the trunk. I like the look of the 4080 box but it only works for 10s from the looks of it. Any good enclosures out there for a 12" that are similar?

To the original post. Is the bass loud in the front seat? Or is it just legit

I've been looking for one forever, nothing seems to work other than if you use a shallow sub.

So up until now my system has worked fine, but recently I've been having a few problems.

1. I now sometimes get a popping noise from the sub when I turn on the car.

2. Sometimes (randomly) the sub will stop hitting, then when I turn down the music all the way i just hear it back there vibrating and thumping randomly, then I turn the stereo off and it still makes the same vibrating and random thumping sounds (with everything off) and will do that until it randomly decides to kick back in. Sometimes even if i turn off the car then turn it back on the sub does the same thing, then will randomly start working again.

Any ideas?

^ It sounds like your amp has problems.

Could it be overheating? I have it hidden under the plastic thing on the sides of the spare tire.

It sounds like a short or bad ground. It could be something else.

It was a short, I found a black scorch mark, I've relocated the amp and so far everything is working fine.
