Bose W/ Rockford Fosgate vs JL vs Polk vs Boston Acoustics
Hey everyone. I am about to try to find a used 4080 box and combine that with an amp and a 10inch sub. I am debating on what sub I should put in the G35 coupe.
I will only be getting 1 sub and will be keeping the stock Head Unit.
My choices:
JL Audio 10W3v3... 2 or 4 ohm.
Boston Acoustics G210-4...4 ohm or get the Dual Voice Coil 4 ohm?
Boston Acoustics G510-4...4 ohm
Polk Audio MM1040...4 ohm or get the Dual Voice Coil 4 ohm?
Rockford Fosgate P3D210...2 ohm or get Dual Voice Coil 4 ohm?
I used to have a rockford fosgate p3 in my mazda 3 hooked up to the stock bose unit and it honestly wasnt too loud-now this could have been because of the trunk sound loss or something else, but the system sounded pretty decent.
Not sure if I should go 2 ohm, 4 ohm or dual ohms with the amplifier hooked up to the bose inputs.
I have read a lot about putting subs into stock bose systems and did that with my mazda 3. I found that I needed no LOC converter, just hooked up RCA wires directly into bose INPUTS 10and viola!
Let me know what you guys think.
I am sort of swaying towards getting a JL10W-3, but obviously still need some help.

If you're going with just one 10" sub then IMO the only way to go would be the RF T210D4...it puts the others you mentioned to shame.

Here's the wiring diagram for a DVC 4 Ohm sub...notice that it puts a 2 Ohm load on the amp: http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/...4-ohm_mono.jpg

That looks like it wouldnt fit in a 4080 box...plus its pretty expensive. I am not a hardcore audiophile-hence keeping the bose HU but I do want the best sound quality in a sealed 10inch sub. I want it to hit hard but tight and not overly boomy. That sub looks like it would blow off the trunk of the G35 lol. Thanks for your opinion though! Keep them coming!

thats what i have when i first put it in. i was like alright this is some decent bass for now. next thing you know i played it and was bumping. then i installed an aftermarket HU. it started to bang for a 10in. and im satisfied but now i want to buy 2 more but it might be overkill. who knows

i am just a little confused about the whole rockford fosgate subs claiming they can handle 800 watt rms and up to 1600 watts. They also claim their amps put out 4 even 5 thousand watts. I have this feeling however that if I were to connect a JL 1000/1 to that rockford fosgate it would blow the driver right out of the box. I mean hooking up a rockford fosgate sub to a rockford fosgate amp seems like it would obviously work but I just don't understand this wattage issue.

RMS = Root Mean Squre or average, which basically means what the sub needs to get moving like it was designed
max =....max. Like if you can only run for 10 min +/- without passing out then you've reached your max
same with subs. The sub will take about 1600 max +/- for only so long, who knows exactly how long
If a sub says 800rms and 1600 max i go about in the middle.
Id feed it 1000-1200 rms.
and your not gonna blow the sub outa the box. If anything the sides would come apart haha.
The 4080 box is built well so you dont have to worry.
What sub and amp are you looking at?
Give me model numbers and I can help you much further

So if im trying to keep the sub cost under 225, what do you think the best option is?
Like I mentioned before, I have some experience with subs/amps but is there really a difference between amplifiers- should I match up JL amp with JL sub and Boston A. amp with Boston A. Sub,etc. I cannot decide between rockford, JL, boston acoustics, and polk....

ooooohhh.....for that price your gonna have to go with used stuff
otherwise your going to get very entry level stuff
If thats your total price with box....its not gonna happen
if it is not
id find a 4 ohm dual voice coil alpine type R on ebay. They go for about $100ish shipped
They take small sealed boxes (.5 cubes) and really sound good for entry/mid level subs
http://cgi.ebay.com/Alpine-TYPE-R-SWR-1042D-10-Dual-4-Ohm-SUB-Woofer-NEW_W0QQitemZ400051857800QQihZ027QQcategoryZ18805QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
amp..id look around for somrthing that does 600-800rms @ 2 ohm
possibly this amp

I just spoke to crutchfield via chat and gave him my options that I gave at the top of this thread and "the guy" recommended either the JL W3 with 10" 2-ohm Component Subwoofer with the Alpine MRP-M500 500W x 1 amp.
Or He said get the POLK SR..which would be a bit louder, but not as accurate as the JL.
I think I am going to go with the JL, Alpine, and the 4080 Box if I can find one used somewhere...
What do you guys think!?

Sounds Great. Thanks for your input everyone! I really do appreciate it. I was sort of leaning towards JL from the beginning as I have lots of friends with positive experiences and i had only so-so experiences with Rockford Fosgate, etc. So I will post some pictures of my setup on the proper thread. JLw3 w/ 4080 box(looking for a used one btw-so PM if you have one!!!) and Alpine M500 amp.
