The problem will go away on its own or do the "Idle Volume Air Re-learning procedure."
Here's the link. engine idle is messed up |

I don't think its the alternator. The car will stay on as long as he taps the gas on startup. The ECU needs to learn the idle because it was reset when the battery was disconnected. If I am wrong please correct me. There are some infiniti techs around here that can step in with some info.

Why would the ECU need to re-learn the idle just b/c the batter was disconnected? i've disconnected 100's of batteries from vehicles of all sorts and never had to do this. Perhaps i would believe this if something interefered electrically with the ECU directly -- like something related to his radio ...

It happens to me every time I disconnect the battery for long periods of time. The car starts up and dies unless I give it gas. After a day or two the issue goes away.
Read post 9 and 13 After Dead Battery Replaced, Car Stalls After Start, Won't Idle Unless GasPedal Tap'd Idle after spacer/intake install I have a wierd idle |

I have same problem when I have my battery disconnected for a long time. Like Manual G said it goes away after a few days.. or you can try that procedure.
