Re: what amp to replace bose amp??

It's not a good idea to change the factory amp and keep the stock blows speakers because the speakers are all .75 to 2 ohm impedences and most aftermarket amps are designed for a 4 ohm load. Do the amp and speakers all at once. You will be glad you did once you see what the stock ones look like.

Memphis amps fit well in the stock location in the coupes if you want it hidden away. Memphis or JL speakers will be a huge improvement.

Re: what amp to replace bose amp??

remami,

So, you would recommend Memphis or Jl's for replacing the separates in the Coupe? I want new speakers but have no idea what to get. I was think MB Q's or something. I only want to spend about 2-300$ per set of 2 at the most. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Memphis and JL's are some of the nicest amps you can get. I actually think they are complete overkill however. They're only for the true audiophile. Just look at the RMS and see what an amp pumps out as far as true sound. Don't skimp on the speakers by any stretch but you can still get a great amp for half the price (or even less) of these mentioned in the post before.

It really is your preference. The JL's have a little more midbass and the Memphis is brighter. I would say look at your overall system and the type of music you like. If you are doing a sub but don't want alot of bass then go Memphis. Smaller subs or want alot of bass go JL bacause you will get more bass out of the JL.

Speakers will make more of a difference than the amp, as the Bose amp will drive a set of good components to a moderate volume level, so buy speakers first. You will ultimately need 5 channels of amplification for a standard system, (one for the sub); or you can add another channel if your goal is 5.1 surround. While there are 5 channel amps out there, most people use a seperate amp for the sub(s), and a 4 channel amp for the component sets.

Re: what amp to replace bose amp??

Well I installed a JL 500/5 to my stock 2ohm speakers (excluding the rear 6x9's I removed) for a couple weeks before my other speakers came in, it work perfectly fine and it was louder and clearer. Because of JL's R.I.P.S. technology, it gave out the same RMS power at any given ohm load between 1.5-4ohms. So I say anything JL with the R.I.P.S. technology.

You will need you spend at least $500 on a decent 5 channel amp. $300 or less would only get you a mono/single channel amp for the sub only.

Do all the speakers in the bose system have the same impedance? Because if they do not then the JL system "attenuates" (lack of better term) the power to every speaker by a value determined from the lowest impedance speaker.

So on a 300/4 (for instance) if you have the front speakers at say 2-Ohm and the rear speakers at say 4-Ohm then the front speakers will get 75 Watts but the rear speakers will only get 37.5 Watts (1/2 of the power because of the restriction from 2-ohm front speakers). Therefore, with the RIPS system it is important to keep the load resistance the same whether they be 1.5-Ohm or 4-Ohm (or anything in between for that matter).

Don't get me wrong I think this technology is awsome but only if used properly.

Re: what amp to replace bose amp??

You can get MB Q's on Ebay for a great price, you can get the QSD series for under $500 and those retail for like $1400 a pair. Power with Phoenix Gold if you want the best. PPi also wins a lot of comps and would be a good choice. I personally never liked JL products. Where I come from you have to go to the cheap shops to get that stuff., but I do know that they are a hell of a lot better than say Rockford.
