BELTRONICS RX65 not doing its job

In the past month I have passed threw several speed traps and not once has my BELTRONICS RX65 warned me. The detector is mounted high on the rear view mirror and there is nothing blocking its view.

Has the cops in Calgary bought some new equipment or what?

Is it high enough to be looking through the windshield tint on top?

a lot of people mount them up high. why i dont know because the radar or laser is going to be aimed at the bottom portion of the car. the proper place to place it is right even with the rear seat so you can see it from the back of the car. thats about right in the middle of the windshield.

plus when you drove by them since you have radar and it didnt go off you know they werent doing radar, just by eye whatever without radar soon as you see a cop you immediately slam on the brakes thats when the ticket comes.

This is from the ValentineOne website: Two reasons. For radar, a longer sight line to the horizon always helps. For laser, moving away from the hood and its sun reflections helps a lot.

I mount my V1 in my tint band (Cops and thieves can't see it) and it gives me plenty of warning. The V1 can pick up a cop around a corner or over a hill. Everyone has their preference in radars but stick with what you're happy with.

At least one major manufacturer suggest that it is mounted high, but in my case that means right in the middle, or just slightly above.

The reason seems to be that while you do get a slightly better signal down low for the front that the difference is not all that much. From the back is pretty much the same situation but that brings it up a little bit more. Their suggestion is just below the normal front window tint. On the 'G' you need to move it lower still to allow it to see below the mirror. This just happens to be the middle of the windshield. One other statement was that you want to not make it so obvious to a cop following you. Also if mounted too low it may become a hazard as far as vision.

I believe what your real goal should be is to pick up the scatter. While the best signal may be very low on your car that means you are the target and there is a good chance they already have you.

Personally I would like remote sensors and have the display mounted in the dash. For those with a Valentine or others, if side sensing is all that important than lower tends to put it out in front of your pillars but then it may hamper your rear detection a little bit.

radar detectors dont need a clear line of sight to pick up radar signals. as long as theres no metal surrounding the detector it should pick up the signals just fine.

http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e39...od-e39-m5.html

heres an example of someone putting their V1 unit INSIDE of a headrest and using an external display. says he gets no loss of warning from the unit being INSIDE of the headrest.

I called escort about this when I got my 8500 x50

the guy said honestly it doesnt matter

think about it

this detector can be used on a bike, car, or lifted truck

all the windshields are different heights and widths.

And the detector may not always beep

PLEASE remember that it is a tool to help receive radar signals, not a 100% ticket avoid-er.

So many people think they can drive 90mph and be saved half a mile ahead.

Truth it cops are alot smarter than you think. Im really lucky, my drive to work is a straight highway road. I usually pick up Ka half a mile to a mile away.

Of course sometimes they are doing instant on and in that case you have little to no chance

Also with laser....your done as soon as laser is displayed.

The location on the windshield is fine, I have always had my detectors in that area and they have all worked very well before. The problem is the cops here in Calgary seem to have something new that my detector cannot detect at all. The cops here are out to get their quota before the winter comes so because of this within the last month I have gone threw at least 10 speed traps and not once did the detector go off. I am sure the detector isn't broken because it still beeps off at all the regular locations and on the highway it can still "smell" a RCMP car a few miles away.

Anybody else got the same problem?

My strategy for not being nailed for speeding is to always follow somebody else at a good distance (use a blocker) and have the detector to warn me when they are being painted by the cops. If the road is empty and I am all alone I keep it to within 5 k of the speed limit so its not worth the cops time to give me a ticket.

I am thinking about buying a V1.

They maybe using Ku. Which isn't new, but is new to north America.

I know they don't use it in America and there are no plans to use it Anytime soon.

It is possible they are using it in Canada.

That or they are using laser
