How do you guys use USB sticks to play music ?

Hi there,
Just got my G35 '05. Silver, Navi. All stock stuff there. Nice
In my previous car (Golf) I used to get USB and played music, audiobooks and now I'm missing it.
I searched here a lot but do not get a clear picture.
Do I have to get iPod to play my music or what ?
Thanks and sorry for that many questions. Really excited...

Well I say it so many times, I'm going to say it again. G35 stock radio sucks a$$. If you want to play music you can either hook up your mp3 or ipod to an fm transmitter or you can replace your whole radio and get a head unit that comes with a usb input. This is the one I'm getting it has a USB input

Yeah it sucks. But throwing 2K for a new Navi is not good for my budget. I will not take FM for now if I can. Horrible experience
Will see if anything will come up in my search. Or iPod is the way to go

iPod adapter is a bit cheaper than replacing the HU, but since the HUs are notorious for going out, I can't recommend doing anything but a DD conversion with HU swap.

iPod/USB support is much better than with the modified factory iPod integration kit, and you get so many other benefits, like bluetooth & GPS.

If it's not in your budget now, keep saving and listening to the radio. Sell blood, plasma, collect cans... there's plenty of ways to come up with a few hundred bucks over a month or two.

I guess you're rich then
I just found something. Not sure if it is what I need but seems to be it !
http://gromaudio.com/store/usb_adapt...sb2-nis02.html
The price $124.99 is steep, but better than 1K otherwise
Does anyone know about such thing ?
I guess I will write them up for more info. It would be very cool if I can browse my stick from the Navi screen ! Hope this is possible.

well there is a lot of things you can do to the g35 HU that can make it play ipod and aux, and what you just posted is an example of one of the things. But for some reason people like to go with the DD HU because for the look also.

I agree that nice AVIC or something will make things easier. I'm afraid I'm not that savvy to install all that with steering wheel controller, DD kit and everything.
Besides I have Navi already which worth me some $$$ and I worry for a stock look. Don't want it to look cheap on my 20K car...
Some mods here are pretty nice though, I wish I had all the skills you guys have...

Just got email from gromaudio.com
Quote:
Thank you for your interest in GROM Audio products !
Indeed G35 '05 is supported with out USB2-NIS02 product.
The device uses SAT emulation so if you have SAT you will need to disconnect SAT if used.
Steering wheel controls supported.
Unfortunately Navi display does not show any information from our device and this is the Navi limitation.
All information like ID3 tags will be displayed on a factory stereo and accessible via DISP button.
As of operation, please read our FAQ section: http://gromaudio.com/support/usb-faq.html
I really hoped that screen can be used somehow. Too bad
