Sedan third brake light repair?

Has anyone here repaired their third brake light? The light on my 06 is failing and before I buy a new one, I would like to jut repair it. I have read it was a resistor or diode that needs to be changed but could not get a diode part number to pick one up prior.

Has anyone done it?

They explained it ot me like this; its like a TV..u have the pixels n if one pixel is broke u gotta replace the whole thing (since at first only 1 of my 7 strip LEDs were out) and now it just doesn't turn on, and some magical days ill see it turn on when i brake and look in the rear view, ill see the 3rd brake light appear. So my guess is, if its just one L.E.D you can probably remove the 3rd brake light, and maybe cut out/remove the broke L.E.D, and soulder in a new one if you know what your doing, since they quoted me 232$ with tax for a new 3rd brake light....

Well, the entire thing either works or doesn't. So when that happens I know it's an issue with the power( checked and fine) or the resistor or diodes on the led strips.

I found a thread where someone clained they replaced a diode but just looking to see if someone what what type so I can pick one up before pulling the light out

If you can find the type of LED, you can always solder and replace it that way.

It's probably easier, and in the long run, cheaper to just replace it, honestly.

Replacement LEDs are about $1 each, soldering tool $10, and solder $5 for enough for a long time.

I can't see it being more expensive in the long run, and since removal is required for both options, it's not substantially easier either.
