Exclamation Cigarette lighter disconnected

Hello. While i was installing an iPod adapter into my stereo, i disconnected the 2 wires that run to the metal plate in the cigarette lighter. Afterward i got a code for the ECU receiving varying currents which i attributed to the wires. Should i reconnect the wires with electrical tape? Or cover them separately? Or something else?

I wouldn't think so, but it could be freaking out a ground somewhere.
