You don't need a LOC if you have the Bose system.

are the power and ground cables on the stock amp sufficient for a nice aftermarket amp? can you just remove the stock amp, then use the existing power/ground for the oem?

^ NO!! You will need to run a suitable size power cable to the battery and ground the amp to a point close to it. 4 gauge power and ground wires will be plenty for most amps. You will need a fuse neat the battery for the power wire too.

The stock turn on wire is fine to use. The Alpine PDX amps have external fuses. I would add them together and get at least that rating for the main fuse.

Anyone have any suggestions? No chance its as simple as removing OEM amp and replacing it with one of the Kenwood KOS-V's is it? I own the car and have no issue soldering or tapping into the wires.

Can i just keep my headunit, and amp and replace the speakers and woofer?
I am looking at JL Audio VR600-CXi for the rear doors, and JL Audio VR650-CXi for the front door, and a JL Audio 8W3v3-8 sub to replace the sub on my o5 g35 sedan. Will this work with the exisiting amp? Will the sub fit on the deck where the old one is? Any suggestions to my 1k investment is appreciated.

If you use your Bose amp, you need 2 ohm door speakers. Replacing the free air Bose sub isn't going to do much, if anything better. A better solution would be to add a sub in an enclosure in the trunk.

The best thing you can do is replace the Bose amp.

got it.
Are there any other considerations i need to take into account when doing this? Will an 8' JL freefloating sub fit in there? How much power should I get on an amp. I dont want to blow the windows off, I just want to rattle the plates...LOL I am thinking of buying the equipment and having it installed pro. Thanks VMF

Amp Pop
I am having my aftermarket amps setup today by my installer he is using the wires that go into the Bose amp the 2 unbalanced differential wires to twisted RCA cut in half and the remote turn on lead.
He then removed the Bose amp and when he tested the setup he said he is getting a loud pop. He said he used a pop blocker but wanted me so ask the forum if this is normal with an aftermarket amp to stock stereo setup. |
