DIY: G35 Coupe Taillight Removal

Be careful when removing the lower trim (1st step after opening trunk). If you pull too hard, you risk not only breaking the clips, but cracking/bending the trim itself. I was attempting to take this piece off, and pulling too hard resulted in a crack in the trim piece (It's about $41 to replace, so not the biggest deal). Also, when removing the tailights, the clips that hold the wires together snapped off (I was not replacing the lights, but rather just needed to remove the lamps to get access to the rear quarter panel for dent removal). So be careful to not wiggle the wires/clip too much if you are putting back the tailights you remove.
I made a thread on the seal packing that is on the coupe tailights, but got no responses. It's probably not relevant to this thread b/c if you are replacing the entire assemblies, the new assembly will come with new seal packing. But if you are reusing the assemblies, not sure if the seal packing needs to be replaced per the fsm, or if most people just put the assemblies back in. I have not been able to find a part number for the seal packing. I am attempting to order from local dealership.
Hmm. I'm surprised no one has attempted to make the trunk release button functional on a 03-05 coupe. On Riverside's listing for the item, it does state the button will not work without modification.
Can anyone speculate on the cost/extent of work necessary to make the trunk release button functional?
