I have a very similar sound on the front passenger side of my 05 sedan. Sounds like a low rumbling sound. Sometimes I wonder if it is tire noise on different kinds of pavement. But it is always there. I have only had the car a few weeks, so really not sure what it is supposed to sound like. I just changed tires and sound is the same as before. The noise is barely audible, but I can definitely hear something. I can even pick out the noise over music. The sound goes away or gets a little louder when I swerve back and forth at high speed, as one side gets loaded and the other side unloads.
I was thinking maybe bearing or a loose CV joint. However, I also get a light clunking sound from same wheel when I turn the wheels through a large range of motion at slow to medium speeds (5-20 mph), like manuvering into parking spots, or turning on slow city roads. So I wonder what is causing this sound and if the two are related.

We recently took the car to the dealer for what "seemed" like wheel bearing issues but they said it was not. The service person even before even looking at the car said it was tire cupping. Long story short, I knew it was but entertained him anyway by getting new front tires (they were cupping and were due to be replaced but by no means bald) and had the same result, as expected. He was so sure it was that he was willing to bet me a give 10:1, upon reaching for my wallet, my g/f said "wtf are you doing?" To which I replied "getting 10 to 1 on my money..." Anyway, Im not even sure how thoroughly they checked it, given he was so adamant it was tire cupping. I'm still pretty sure its the wheel bearing and will take back to the dealer soon for 2 year service, a different dealer needless to say. |

What are the symptoms/sounds of a worn rear wheel bearing?

my driver side rear has gone bad.
you can jack the car up and wiggle the wheel. with one hand at the 12 o'clock position and the other at the 6 o'clock. push with one hand and pull with the other. if there is wiggle, than your bearing is shot and it is time to replace.

What if there isn't any wiggle? I am hearing a loud ticking noise from the rear right side when I'm going like 20-30mph. I followed the axle noise TSB and that didn't fix it!

if there is no wiggled, than it is probably not your bearing. i'm not sure what your situation could be.

When you lower or otherwise redesign a car most warranty disappears.

Yeah.. i know.. i was never planning on taking it to the dealer.. esp since im at 70K and have no warranty.. I think my shock absorbed blew out.. i wont know for sure until i swap the two front struts.. i tested to see if it was the wheel bearing by jacking the car up and wiggling the tire.. there was no play or movement.. im down to 2 options.. its either the shock absorber.. or a bad CV joint.. but the noise decreases when i accelerate, and virtually gone past 40mph.. so im banking on the fact that its my shock..

I've had two G's and both of them had bad wheel bearings. Neither of them had any wiggle to the tires but if you spun the tire you could hear a faint crumbling noise ( barely audible ).

Spin the wheel bearing with the wheel off. You will likely hear some scraping.

Well i found out my problem... i broke an axle.. not all the way.. it isnt snapped.. but the axle spline where it connects to the transfer case is loose.. so its gonna snap any day now
