Overlowering...The Unforgiveable Sin

Great article from former Sport Cpmact Car writer and fellow Nissan enthusiast, Mike Kojima.

This is worse than putting big 24's+ chrome rims on or even adding the Ashton Martin or GTR front.

Regardless...lowering the center of gravity on a vehicle will, in fact, improve handling...

Slamming your car, however, will not...

There's a point to the article in the OP but not so much as the style of stretched tires and aggressive offsets...OG drifters had JUST that...stretched tires and aggressive offsets.

Wahhh

Dump it 6 inches or buy something fast.

Or dump it 6inches and put it sideways fast.

http://www.stancenation.com/2010/07/28/one-bad-texan/

FD cars now have 1" ground clearance so the function/form argument is over. Dumped is sick and functional. I don't wanna see your struts through your fenders, I wanna see them through your wheels.

from the link i posted earlier>>> http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-10...set/index.html
That's because these purpose-built race cars are equipped with reinforced hubs and wheel bearings, stiffened suspension with reset or completely reworked geometry, and body and aero packages designed for minimal drag, maximum downforce and a wider track. These highly sophisticated and carefully engineered modifications make what would appear to be impossibly low ride height and super-aggressive wheel offset work extremely well in a high-performance environment.

Which brings us to the current automotive styling trend of super-aggressive wheel offset and super-low ride height known best by the word "hellaflush." Just to be clear, I'm not a hellaflush hater by any means - I consider automotive stylists like Jayson Pizarro and the Fatlace crew to be very important trendsetters within the industry. The thing is, guys at the forefront of the scene like Jayson understand how to achieve a very aggressive wheel offset and super-low stance without overly compromising the performance of their vehicle, but the average Joe out there who wants to slam and stretch his car's stance may not fully understand the consequences of doing so in a quick, half-baked way. So let's take a look at what happens to your car's handling and steering when you stuff super-aggressive offset wheels and tires under it and dump its ride height to the ground.

Good article, however, I think that most people going the hellaflush route are fully aware that they are hurting the cars drivability. hence the "form>functiona" and "stance is everything" stuff.

there are exceptions of course, where people manage to achieve functionality along with their form.

for me, I am probably never going to track my car since there isnt one close enough to be convenient. And im not about to start street racing or tokyo drifting around my neighborhood, so the unnoticeable side effects to handling are worth making my car look the way I want it to...
