Replacing only the strut in a coilover set

This might be a really dumb question but I searched around and couldn't find a definite

answer. Our Gs rear suspension use a two piece setup where the struts and the springs are

not integrated. I currently have an oem style coilover setup on the car and one of the rear

struts appear to be going bad. My question is, can I just replace only the rear struts with

aftermarket or do I need to replace the whole coilover set?

Has anyone else done this?

Shock - spring

Or

Strut

You should replace shocks together as in front together or rear together. You don't have to replace the springs.

So it's okay to replace just the struts on a coil over set?
