Question Purchasing 2004 g35 sedan, help needed.

Total newbie here. Really hope I could get some help from you guys.

I'm looking to buy a used 04 g35 sedan with about 121000 miles on it, went for a test drive, everything felt smooth and powerful. The guy was very honest and open about everything he knew, didn't seem to hide anything. Even let me went on a half hour test drive on the lakeshore drive so I could really step on the gas a little. Everything else works well, all the power stuff, suspension felt good too, since they use a timing chain, not a belt, on the engine, that's one less thing to worry about. A little ding in the front, guess that's normal for a 10 year old car in Chicago.

But I do want to make sure the car has a clean history before I actually give the guy cash(he's the second owner, purchased the car around 110000 miles two years ago, barely drove it since then). I should have asked him to show me the title..

I googled the vin number JNKCV51E14M607320, on Illinoil DMV, record shows the title is original, but in NICB it shows this:

VIN: JNKCV51E14M607320 has been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheckSM Salvage Records.

Date of loss: 2011-06-12
Cause of loss: Collision

I am confused now, don't really want to spend another $30 on carfax because no matter what the carfax says, the result would still be different from either DMV or NICB. One thing he mentioned was that someone hit him from behind he had to repaint the whole rear bumper,I'm thinking maybe that's the reason why the car has a salvage title, if NICB is indeed correct. He also told me that he didn't think they did a good job because the paint has been coming off a little.

But this doesn't match the time, he's owned the car only for two years and according to NICB the collision happened 3 years ago.

The plan now is to bring the car to a friend of mine who owns a honda/acura shop tomorrow, so he can put the car in the air to have a better look. But since he's not a nissan/infiniti guy I'm not sure how much help that would be.

Any ideas/suggestions guys?

These cars are destined to be classics so it could still be worth it. A salvaged title is really only a huge deal if the frame is bent from the accident. Used to be that a salvaged title would usually come due to frame damage, but it actually just means that the repairs exceeded the "worth" of the car.

On a "luxury" brand car that's 10 years old, this can happen quite easily, so not all is lost. What is he asking for the car?

Thank you, that does make me feel better. He's asking for 5400, but I'm pretty sure he'll be willing to come down to 5K. What do you think?

The only real way to tell is to bring it to a shop that can tell you whether or not the frame is true. If its totally straight, I wouldn't have a problem at $5k. If its not tho. you get all kinds of alignment and tire wear issues that really can't be fixed that you really don't wanna deal with.
