Laptop Question- G35

Newbie here, looking at doing a carputer when I get my G35 (looking at either sedan or coupe, leaning towards coupe). Has anyone got a laptop with a bad screen to use as a carputer? I would be using a DW screen anyway, so it wouldn't really matter if it worked. Threre are 1ghz lappys on Ebay all the time for ~$150-200 with bad screens, so I think it might be the economical way to go. Where do you guys with laptops put them? I would like to have access to the drive from the passenger compartment if possible. That's enough questions for now .

I had the same idea a while ago but due to the heat generated by the patop and the power consumption, I think it may be more hassle than its worth

Does a P3 pentium laptop use that much more power than a Aopen style mini computer? I agree about laptops running warm, but with correct placement I think it would be fine.

I just like the positives of battery backup, easy shutdown (like having a carnetics), you can just use a simple cigarette lighter adapter for power, and low $$ investment.

That brings me to another question: Can laptops be set up to come out of standby when they are "plugged in" (acc switch turned on, powering cig lighter adapter)?

I guess I never followed it through to the end but they way I look at it, if it was that simple, more people would have been doing it already. Maybe they already have but I've never read a post here, oh and by the way
