Touchscreen becomes untouchable

Ok, maybe I could make the title a bit better but whatevers .

So, I have 6 usb ports on my carPC. I have my GPS, touchscreen lcd, and my wireless mouse hooked up to it. Sometimes, when I start my car, my touchscreen no longer responds to touches. What I then do is either reboot the pc or disable/re-enable my usb touchscreen device in device manager.

I believe it's a USB irq conflict but not quite sure how to fix this. I have moved over to different USB ports and the problem remains the same. Any advice? Thanks.

just create a script that stops and restarts the service for the USB touchscreen driver.

I sometimes have this problem - MB896 board? StreetDeck? I haven't posted this yet, b/c I'm still investigating the underlying issue. I don't think it's StreetDeck per se. I don't think it's Win XP per se. It is obviously related to usb. Using devcon.exe in a script to programmatically plug/unplug on every restart is one workaround, but I have not tried that yet.

I have actually noticed that my external powered USB hub (that actually powers off during standby by relaying the 5V line on USB) comes up fine *every* time. So a hardware solution might be to use similarly powered hubs for all usb devices. This has the added benefit of *no* power draw during standby mode.

I think both these solutions will address the problem, but I haven't tried them yet. (Was going to do hardware 1st and software just out of curiosity)

I was also going to check over at mp3car.com, but haven't had a chance yet....

edit: confirmed - there are several threads about this at mp3car.com (not in the streetdeck subforum). You can use devcon to "unplug" the touchscreen prior to going into standby and then use it again to "replug" it back in. StreetDeck has special folders - if you put batch files in them, it will run those at the appropriate times... I still think the hardware fix is a better one, but again have not tried either one yet.

Are you wired to a powered usb hub or directly into the pc back panel? Also, how many usb devices are you running?

Not wired to a usb hub, I'm wired it directly to the back panel. I have 3 usb devices running - GPS, Touchscreen, and wireless mouse.

A "switched" usb hub may work (where all power is actually cut during standby).

I've got a thread over at mp3car.com in the StreetDeck forum - waiting for GOD_OF_CPU to respond - for those that are following this issue.

If they're all runing 500 mAh each or so that may be the issue. I had a similar issue using a non-powered usb hub......sometimes it would work and sometimes it just simply wouldn't. My fix was getting a good powered usb hub and that fixed the issue permanently.

I have always used a powered hub. It seems that my WiFi dongle may be the culprit...

Hmm, I'll take out my wifi dongle and see if that helps as well.
