Leaking oil in spark plug

Hey guys I started changing my spark plugs on my G35. After I removed spark plug number one I noticed there was fresh oil pooled around the plug. What does this mean and what should I do to repair it?

Your spark plug tube seals are defective.
Depending on the year of your car you may just need to replace the tube seals or you may need to replace the whole engine cover like me.

There is a sticky on this forum about this.

its common on our cars . I do the swaps if needed locally just f.y.i OP. Just need ot pick up some new ones....unfortunately you cant replace the tube seals unless you cut them out and switch out to the R&D Factory ones which im not sure are available anymore

G35man04 thanks for the info. I may need to hit you up on this. I pulled coil pack 6 as well and it was leaking oil. So, I think I need to order that laundry list of parts that is on sticky to replace both valve covers. Does anyone know if this would cause increased fuel consumption and rough idle?

So how would one know if there is such a defect occurring without actually replacing the seeing the pooled oil? Are there any signs to this problem?

until you take out the coil pack you cant really tell if oil's broken through the spark plug tube's seal

so one cud argue that until you need to replace the plugs at 106,000 miles it is not a big worry to check if there is not difference in drive???

I've had oil in the spark plug wells for years. Never knew until I changed my own plugs a couple years ago. I immediately got on driver and searched until my search button about fell off and iirc the end result that I found was that it was relatively harmless. I decided at the time it wasn't worth the money to fix it so I left it alone.

It's been about 10k miles now and I am due to change my plugs again (copper NGK 1-step colder for boost) so I will see what it looks like now. It's never been an issue as far as oil consumption (or oil loss) for me. When I think about it, I am more prone to leaks with higher intake pressure and it still hasn't posed any issues for me.

I do an oil analysis every oil change (which are about 1 year apart) and have never had anything but good results (using only Mobil1 0W-40 and Mobil filter).
