Help decipher my time slip please?

I took my 2003 G35 to New England Dragway on Friday night..

CAR:

5AT
90,000 miles
Stillen Cold Air kit with Box
Z Tube
5/16 Motordyne Spacer
3" Single Catback with Flowmaster 44 muffler
Street Tires

TRACK:

90 ft above sea level
70 degrees out
DA calculated at 633 ft

1st Run
Ran in Auto, Tires at 30psi

R/T - .304
60' - 2.336
330' - 6.400
1/8th - 9.738
MPH - 73.75
1000' - 12.606
1/4 - 15.018
MPH - 93.00

2nd Run
Ran in Auto, Tires at 22psi

R/T - .180
60' - 2.340
330' - 6.387
1/8th - 9.720
MPH - 73.92
1000' - 12.579
1/4 - 14.987
MPH - 93.11

I had a few more runs that night all trapping between 92-93.71mph, ranging between 14.98-15.3 ET's and ALL runs with a 2.3 60 foot time...

My concern is that i thought these cars ran low 14's at mid 90's stock. My car dyno'ed at 223rwhp before the setup.

Does something seem off to you?

Thanks for any interpetation

Dave

Did you launch? Car is 14.7 stock. You also ran in D mode? That will def slow down your time. Should of gone in MM. This prob explains it.

22psi is a bit low to run on with street tires. 28psi is were I got my best 60 foot 2.198. Launched at around 2.3k, you need more runs to toy around with PSI..ect

First run was at 1000rpm launch
Second was at 1600rpm launch

I did make one run in MM but i forgot to take off VTC

1st Run
Ran in Auto, Tires at 30psi

R/T - .468
60' - 2.504
330' - 6.677
1/8th - 10.022
MPH - 73.60
1000' - 12.894
1/4 - 15.300
MPH - 93.71

When in MM, what should I be shifting at? I assume i should trap in 3rd correct?

What should I launch at? I see you launched at 2300, what is the stall in these cars?

If it's 14.7 stock, then shouldnt i be expecting a 14.4-14.5 with the mods? What is stock trap speed as i was consistant at 93mph through all 6 runs?

I don't have any experience with the automatics, so they may be different in this aspect... but I notice you are only gaining about 19mph in the back half of the track (1/8 mph to 1/4 mph). With my car (6MT), I gain about 22.5mph in the top end. What are your shift points like? Perhaps some of the auto guys can compare shift points with you and see if that has anything to do with it?

I believe its 2.7k is the stall.

It all depends on the conditions and tires..ect I ran a 14.57 @96.3 stock but it was 60f outside, I ran the 14.7 in 85f with the plenum burning hot.

If you are going to do the 1/4 put it in MM, Shift at redline. You need to compensate for the lag so that it shifts on point.

2.5 is a poor foot 60' you should be able to get 2.2 easy, try launching at 2k-2.3k.

yea no need to shift into 4th. 1>2>3 and your done for 1/4 mile

Try 28 PSI next time, get some more track time! Your time will come down.

Here is my First run ever (14.64), I left VDC on if you listen it kicks in at the beginning and I shifted into 4th at the end but I think I was passed the end already :O

<object height="385" width="480">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ih63r2cXtIA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="480"></object>

And here is the most recent run I had done 14.7. @94.3 ish. Only mistake I did this time is I hit the limiter from 1>2 if you listen you can hear. (at the beginning that's stuff shifting around in my car)

<object height="385" width="640">

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/idrY_REkvT0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" height="385" width="640"></object>

As you see temperature means alot!

wow i thought stall was 1800, 2700 would be awesome..i will launch higher next time.

I was running 2.36 60's all night, the 2.5 60' was due to the VDC being on..

I'll try 28 psi as well, were you running street tires?

thanks for the help..

I wanna try and get a transgo install here soon, im sure that wil help tremendously.

Yea I was running street tires. You got to play around with the PSI. Launch higher and keep it in MM

More seat time will be the best thing to get your time down.

Maybe the tune or gas. My car ran like crap the only time I took it to the track, due to cheap gas. I could tell it was having KR and not mapped well. I plan on going back one day soon, now that I only put in what has run consistently well.

These cars are very finicky with the gas, as was my 04 350Z. For instance, my 04 ran 14.0 at 99-100 on crap gas, but ran 13.6-13.7 at up to 103 with the good stuff.

Running like crap, my stock G35 sedan ran 14.3@98. I figure I can run high 13's with the good gas during good conditions.

Your 60' is a bit high too, but those traps say that the power is down a bit. The car will also run better in manual mode, if you hit the shift points perfect. You will gain a few hundred rpm's and a little better placement in the power band when it up shifts.

your DA was the same as mines.

https://g35driver.com/forums/drag/28...1-stock-x.html

i did somewhat better then you in complete stock form. hell my GF ran it with VDC on and in D did better then some of your runs... PLus i'm a AWD HEAVY sedan

maybe something is wrong with the car or maybe you need to just get used to taking it to redline.

Tune and more track time. I think my 1st ever run (6 yrs ago) with exhaust and intake was 14.5 my best with just those 2 mods was 14.2.

I'm now fully modded N/A and with alot of track time ran 13.2. I'm the G in the vid this was my PB. I'm auto also.

Practice.

I don't have my slip available, but I have hit a 2.2 60' with 18 psi in the tires, but I redlined a shift and screwed up, ended up with a 15.1 @ 94mph

I changed my plugs and had an oil change as well as sefoamed. I gained 1.5mph at trap speed on 2 runs, but still my best ET is 14.98.

I shifted the 1-2 @ 5500 and by the time it hit 6500 the shift had completed, so my 1-2 is perfect (until i install my transgo i just bought)

I saw your car, very impressive. I was there with a friend with a 04 GT. What year is your 5AT? Maybe one night I go, i can let you drive my car and see what happens as I am not very experienced with seat time and maybe that's some of my issue, not to mention im 300 pounds, so thats good for .1 increase in my ET...lmfao.

Will the Transgo Shift Kit help my ET or Trap Speed?

I'll send you a PM with my number, so we can get up sometime soon.

THANKS EVERYONE

Dave

My recommendations:

1) Put the OEM intake back on. The Stillen intake doesn't add power and it could be allowing the motor to ingest very hot underhood air (150 degrees+). With you're other mods and no tuning, there is the possibility you could be running very lean to the point that timing is being reduced and the A/F richened. Both kill power. Put the OEM intake back on

2) Let the car shift itself on the 1-2. It will shift quicker. Simply put the car in "2" when you get to the line. Once it completes the shift, hold 2nd until 6400rpms, then shift to 3rd. Hold 3rd the rest of the run. Shifting to 4th will increase ET by .15 to .2 second and reduce MPH by 2mph. Been there, done that. 3rd is good to 101mph on OEM size tires.

3) Shallow stage. That means roll up to the line and set the prestage light. Then creep up until the stage light comes on and STOP. This will give you about 1 foot of roll out before the timers start. It's not good for reaction time, but it does have a small effect on ET and MPH.

4) When the tree starts to fall, hold the brake and mash the gas to the floor. This should get you to around 2500rpms on the launch. Release the brake. This should all take around 1 second.

5) Run with less than a 1/2 tank of fuel and get all the crap out of the car. Being 300lbs isn't helping you at all. A 150lb driver will be at least .15 seconds and 1mph faster in your car.

you need me to edit the vid without you in it? AJ ran 12.6@109 with a 75 shot in his 5at.

I should be getting my 100shot (sitting in my closet) installed before the fall season it's too hot now.

I just put on the 20's it's show and profile now until the fall then I will break out the 18's and DRs.
