Do i have a VLSD?
A little confused here. Took my car to my buddy's shop last night to get inspection and emissions done. So we put my car up on one of the lifts and noticed that it appeared I had a limited slip. Both rear wheels spun in the same direction in neutral when spun by hand. Didn't seem right tho because I have a 2004 G35 Coupe 5at. I honestly thought that only the 6mt's came with the VLSD.
So I am really confused as to if i have it or not. I tried the "burnout" test and it appeared i do have a VLSD. The car left two identical tracks on both sides measuring the exact same distance. Mind you i was careful and did this in my driveway away from traffic. My car came loaded from the factory with every option except Navigation. i have the 18" wheels. And Aero package. Don't know if any of this helps I would just like to know if I have one or not. Thanks.

As far as I know.. '03-'04 with the 18" wheels came with VLSD.
'05s didn't.. but I just got the 3.5+VLSD pumpkin swapped this past weekend.. Loving it!

^^^ All 6mts have the VLSD and some autos came with VLSD, mostly the ones with sprt packages.

In all reality, all VLSDs are generally open by the time you hit 60k miles due to wear and tear. |

If it was an open diff you wouldn't see both wheels spinning the same direction when the trans is in neutral.

Unless you have significantly uneven traction, both tires will spin.
DaveB has proven this multiple times, with videos. |
