Dual Mass Flywheel Question

I'm having the clutch replaced in my 04 6mt. I have heard numerous people say that a dual mass flywheel cannot be machined and lots of other people say it can?. If it can't be machined there is no way I'm paying the 1k for an oem flywheel so are there any heavy single mass alternatives that don't chatter excessively and do alright with every day driving?
