Pivot ball replacement

My brother took his 6MT to a shop to get his clutch replaced. However when he got it back he found the pivot ball which he left on the back seat in the trunk with the old clutch.

He called and said to bring it in sometime later to take a look at it.

My question is do they have to drop the tranny again to replace the pivot ball or can it be done without dropping it?
Also he installed the JWT combo, how bad is it to keep his stock pivot ball? its an 06 with 40k miles on it

Thanks

You have to drop the tranny to install the pivot ball.

I have replaced one(and only one) without dropping the transmission and I cussed for about 3 hrs. while doing it. It can be done but it just depends on the tech.

Actually the shop took it back and couldn't do it.
I know the guy working in it now, the previous mechanic didn't install the roller bearing which cause damage to the new clutch and flywheel.
So they ordered a new clutch and flywheel now and waiting for it to come in. Then redo the install.

Roller bearing? I assume you are talking about the pilot bearing.... I don't like the bearing ones personally, work great until the bearings go to crap. At least I know with the regular ones there won't be any failure

Well with the JWT you get the nismo roller bearing to replace the pilot bushing. He didn't install either.
