05 G35x Wheel Bearings - Need an opinion

Hello.

I recently took my car (sedan) to the dealership for a full inspection. The car has been making a noise from the front after going above 45mph that incrementally gets louder the faster you go. I believed it was the front right wheel bearing. After getting diagnostics done the dealer told me that both front wheel bearings need replacing.

They quoted me $1,400 for the replacement of both. I love taking my car to the dealer for other things since they have been reasonable for the cost of those repairs (and they also provide a lovely new loaner every time my car stays for more than a day). I don't know if their asking price is reasonable however.

I have been talking to a few people and get mixed feedback. Some say that the wheel bearing is an entire unit that includes the hub/sensor and all that stuff and that the quoted price does seem correct. Others tell me the bearings cost about 170 each.

Have any of you gotten the front bearings replaced before and if so what seems to be a more reasonable price estimate for this repair? My car has 128,xxx on it and its seen nothing but Chicago winters its whole life.

Any feedback/suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Well I found out that the dealer way overcharged for this. I just bought both front hub assembly (bearing already pressed) for 240 and they are made by F A G (all together can't spell it normally, german brand, apparently very reputable in quality). I'm sure my local mechanic won't charge me much just to put them in since there is no pressing required.

Keep in mind I found a lot of 30-60 dollar alternatives on eBay and parts places. You get what you pay for and I believe it's not worth saving the 80 bucks per part at the risk of having to replace the cheap parts if they fail or don't last long.

This thread can be closed now thanks!.
