Clicking axle fixed!

I decided that having a turbo'd G would equal nothing but headaches for me if I went to the dealer with the annoying axle click problem. I went ahead and read the TSB fix for this problem and decided to do it myself.

Anyhow I went to autozone and bought some 3 dollar white lithium grease. I chose this stuff because I have used it in high heat areas in the engine bay and its held up well. Now I didnt replace the cotter pin or the 6 bolts/nuts/washers on the back side of the axle. I took them off and they seemed to be in very good shape and high quality as well as the cotter pin.

I undid the large front bolt located behind the wheel and removed the brake caliper which is only held on by 2 19mm bolts. I marked the hub and threaded shaft just as the TSB says. I then went in underneath and took out the other 6 bolts and the axle slid right out. I took a wire brush and cleaned the area as shown in the TSB and then applied a generous amount of lithium grease to the area. I then made sure I rotated the axle 180 degrees from the original install point and slid it back in. Tightened up all the bolts in the reverse order I took them off, put the caliper back on, and then the wheel. I went out for a drive and I was all grins from ear to ear!!! Its fixed.... For now at least. Basically guys, if you have the motor skills to unscrew bolts you can do this fix, its very easy and only takes an hour.

Infiniti quoated me $500+ to fix the problem...does this sound right at all???

The dealer is always going to way over charge you. After doing this fix myself I would never in a million years pay someone 500 to do it.

The warranty information states that the fix for BOTH axles cost around a tad over an hour of labour... they must be hiring some really talented people to charge $500 an hour lol..

Or they might be replacing both axle stubs

This is great info, im goin to do this when I change my brakes. Noise has always bothered me.

Guys this was very easy to do, and, all I had to buy was some lithium grease. Just make sure to clean the axle with a wire brush before putting the grease on. I have put alot of miles on sice I did this and I am still click FREE!

The dealer has fixed this twice already on mine. The first time, the noise was very loud from a go. The second time around it wasn't that much, it was barely noticeable but since I took my car in so they can change the Bose head unit I asked them to fix it again.

i fixed mine differenty. I just took off the main bolt that is in the center of the rotor and the axel sprayed it with a part cleaner then lubed it up with some m77 grease and tightend it back down and it was fine...

havnt had any probelms yet for 10,000 miles.

Axle Click?

If that's what they call the clicking sound coming from the sunroof, or atleast thats where it seems, when I get in and out of driveways and angled streets, then I guess I should get it repaired.

(I call it the "Sun Roof Click" ... its pretty loud)

This should be covered by warantee right?

Its a TSB so why would you get charged to have it fixed? It should be done for free. I have the same problem but have finally stopped noticing it too much.

If you are out of warranty you have to pay for it...its not the same as a recall.

I thought that warranty covers it?
It did when my axle was clicking
