P0455 Trouble code
#18
maaaayun, i got the P0455 code. i reset it, 300 miles later it came on.
i did change my air filter recently, before the first time it came on, maybe i knocked/cracked a hose? is that possible?
i'm going to reset it and make sure the gas cap is on tightly. i'm also going to check the hoses around the airbox to make sure i didnt crack one.
based on this post, it looks like the next thing to do (if the light comes on again) is replace the valve behind the rear passenger wheel?
thanks

Two things:
First, Advance Auto does sell an OEM gas cap for the 05 G35 that is exactly the same as the stock gas cap, lettering and everything. I noticed that the seal on my old gas cap looked like it had seen better days. If I could find an identical seal and replace it in the cap, it would have been the cheapest fix. I would gladly trade 7 bucks for a new cap and be lazy.
Second, replacing the gas cap and having the code wiped solved my issue. I can testify that I have put on roughly 12,000 miles since I made this post and the problem has not arised a second time. Car still runs like it's brand new (partially due to seafoam), though it no longer looks new.
Note, as many people explained in this thread, the problem is only limited to the emission system meaning it could be a whole variety of issues. Let my situation be an example of how easy and cheap a fix might be (and cross your fingers hoping that it is just the gas cap (and as people noted, don't put a tractor gas cap on your G35)).

And a year and a half later! The SES light comes on again. It was inconsistant. Sometimes when I filled up the tank and put the cap back on it would go off and I wouldnt see a problem...sometimes I have to retighten the filler cap...A LOT of times it would go on and off depending on the gas level (maybe this indicates something?). Anyhow I figured maybe the seal on my cap was going or maybe the extreme cold had cracked it. I purchased another OEM replacement. Now the light is on all the time. Yesterday I went to diagnose it and I got 10-10-10-10 ie 0000 meaning no issues found and the light reset. It came on again after about 30 miles of driving now 10-4-5-5 ie 0455 large emissions leak. What do you guys think? Where do I go from here? Does it sound like the oem replacement gas cap was defective? Do you think its something else? I have never had recall work on anything with my evap but I dont think the 05 g35x has any for that. Let me know if there are any further diagnostics to test the hoses, evap box, or filler hose.
