Emulators / Home Theater

I've totally been jonesing for some old-school gaming. I'm familiar with emulators, though I haven't touched one in years. Also, I don't want to be hunched down around my laptop to enjoy them. I want to play them on my big screen from my couch(I know they'll look horrible; I don't care).

So what are my options? Here's what I can think of:

1 - Run linux on my ps3
2 - Build an HTPC
3 - Run them from my laptop, connected to the tv

Any body else do this? Any other options that I'm missing?

Since you already have a laptop, just connect that to your tv

1. Get a DVI cable, HDMI cable or DVI to HDMI cable. Or a VGA cable if your tv doesn't have DVI or HDMI(which are higher quality)

2. Get a Y audio cable which splits the output from a headphone jack into the red and white connections to plug into your entertainment system. I just use my laptops tinny speakers for now.

3. Get a wireless controller or the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver so you can use your Xbox controller with your laptop. I use the Xbox controller. You could also get a wireless keyboard and mouse to play PC games on the big screen if your laptop can handle them.

4. If you don't have a wireless keyboard and mouse and want to do stuff other than emulation on your big tv, you could get Xpadder to map your keyboard and mouse to your wireless controller. Now you can browse the web using the analog stick on your controller.

Chrono Trigger on the big screen!

^+1 yeah, what he said. Although, if you do end up building a dedicated HTPC, that would be pretty cool too.
