Self Healing Paint

Just wondering if anyone knew the details on the EX's self healing paint. Specifically I'm wondering what happens if/when you get into an accident and need to repaint some body parts. Are most body shops able to obtain this new paint or will you just lose this feature?

Self-healing clear-coat has been on the market for years. Infiniti just happens to be the only manufacturer that offers it on the cars from the factory. A body shop will be able to restore the function of the clear-coat. It just depends on how good of a job the body shop does....

It uses heat (sun) to help the paint reseal or "fill in" swirling or minor scratches. It has a limited life like 3 years or so.

If it works like it does in my head then I'm gunna get my front bumper with this when I get a kit. Right now bumper looks like death. Does it have to be sprayed a special way or any body shop could do it?

Good question...I need to know too. I got a small scratch at the bottom right corner. Its a horizontal line in the paint about 2 inches long and a few mm's wide. I'm thinking I may either repaint the front bumper or replace it with an 06 sport bumper and have that one painted with self healing paint..

What's the cost of this stuff in QX1 white?

I think the self healing is clear coat only. Atleast that is what I understand from the posts above. So QX1 is just normal paint (which I'm glad for since I have BW5 -Twilight blue- which is expencive enough as is.) and the clear would be more expensive. Price will be the downside to it though.

what will it do for rock chips? I'm ready to repaint my whole front end and this feature would effect my next purchase decision if this (repainting) was something I did not have to worry about 2 years after making my purchase or would allow me to get a black car.
