Blu Ray or HD DVD?

First off, sorry if this is a repost but I've searched and couldn't find anything. but I just recent bought my new 52" Sony Bravia XBR 1080p tv a few months back and LOVE it. The HD channels are amazing. Now it's time for me to start my HD movie collection. I'm leaning more towards Blu Ray as it looks like it's the format that's going to win the war but what do you guys think? What do you guys have? I've seen a few threads on other forums but there are hardcore Blu Ray fans and HD DVD fans so not sure if Blu Ray is the way to go.

Blu Ray... I think 5 of the 7 major studios are with Blu Ray now - only a matter of time probably before HD DVD falls by the wayside

Are the movies that are shown on the HD premium channels the same resolution/clarity as Blu Ray or HD DVD?

No, as far as I know, no HD channel broadcasts in 1080i but I may be wrong.

As for the OP's question, Blu Ray all the way. As for what Blu Ray player to get, the PS3 is the best option. Its one of the best on the market right now plus it doesn't take forever to load movies like other BR players.

Some channels do broadcast in 1080i. So far, none, to my knowledge, broadcast in 1080p.

Time Warner cable boxes, for example, have a display showing whether you're watching 480, 720, or 1080

My mom works for NBC10 and she said Blu Ray due to HD may be out of production soon due to lack of sales and more Blu Ray contracts. So get Blu Ray. I picked up the PS3 as my Blu Ray to accompany our Pioneer. Looks fantastic.

I would reccomend the PS3 due to it having one of the better picture qualities and is half the price of Blu Ray players. But that is just my opinion. Also the blu ray remote is also a neat feature.

Your PS3 should upconvert your standard DVDs. I haven't had any issues with mine upconverting.

As to the OP, Bluray appears to be the best choice for now.
