Anyone into wetshaving? Double Edge Safety Razors & Straight Razors? Post your stuff!
Anyone else into the art of wet shaving? Post your stuff
![]() Art of Shaving Elements kit, got it off Amazon for a starters kit. The brush blows, the shaving cream is good, and the after shave is wonderful, but those can be purchased separately in larger containers. I would recommend skipping this and getting a quality silver tip badger brush, a nice bowl and quality shaving cream and after shave. Make sure the after shave contains NO alcohol. I ordered a tube of Prosaso Eucalytus Shaving Cream, should be on its way. ![]() ![]() The Merkur HD with the Super Blades, got this off Amazon as well. Great kit for starters, might want to experiment with the blades. ![]() In with the old out with the new. I will be ordering a Merkur Futur adjustable set in the near future, but it is not recommended to start off with this as it is more aggressive than the HD. Wet shaving is just AMAZING compared to the cartridge and goo in a can stuff we've been accustomed to. If your interested in learning more, watch this guys videos, they're great! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjhIy9rgWQU Linkage: Merkur HD (what I have now) http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Heavy-D.../dp/B0001XGNQQ Merkur Futur (what I will be buying in the futur (lol)) http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Futur-P.../dp/B000WA8J0Q Good site for Blades. http://www.razorandbrush.com/barberiablade.html Prosaso Eucalytus Shaving Cream http://www.amazon.com/Merkur-Futur-P.../dp/B000WA8J0Q ![]()

I have a Remington ($120) Electric shaver that I use to shape up from day to day.
I have an older Mach 3 Turbo dont really use anymore & I just picked up the Gillette Fusion with the battery in it; I use that when I want everything all shaved off nice & smooth... I would love to hit the barber & have him give me a real good shave...

I like the Art of Shaving stuff. Buy a better Brush though the one you have is not great, looks to be only a badger buy a silver tip one from them. I also like the Art of Shaving cream I use the one in the black tub with the orange or yellow label. Damn I only see it in the wee hours of the morning... I also use the Truffit and Hill razor at the moment. I used to use a straight blade but have not had the time. The Truffit and Hill uses a Mach 3 disposable blade but is fast in the morning.

Yeah electric is nice & quick in the morning & when your on the go & need a quick shave to get rid of the hair. I do a nice smooth shave when a razor like Fusion, which gets all the hair gone.
So this is like luxury way of shaving, I have another question, what in the hell does that brush do??

This is how our grandfathers used to shave. You could call it luxury, as the shave is a lot more enjoyable. The main benefits are less irritation and no razor burns. The video I posted in the OP will answer a bunch of your questions, and if you watch that users other video's, you'll get a feel for what your missing out on. I saw this on another message board recently and switched over, you really have to try it to feel the difference. It takes a few tries to get the technique right, but once you get it, you'll never go back. The brush is used to generate lather or cream for shaving, watch this video for a visual demo. I knew there wouldn't be many people into wet shaving in here. Meh I hope I influence some of you to try it out. Initial setups cost a bit, but in the long run they are cheaper than your multi blade gimmick razors.

damn that looks like its worth a try. I dread shaving because my hair is so thick and i got a bad habit of shaving of going a couple days in between. Maybe ill hit up target like he said. Do you guys buy all the high end creams and after shave too?

I would recommend starting off with wet shaving first. Purchase a quality fine or silvertip badger hair brush (above $50 range). This is one of the most important aspects of wet shaving, you can get a cheapy kit like I have and if you like the wetshaving system you will regret not buying a better brush like I have. As far as creams go, Target no longer carries proraso, so I just ordered it online, cost me about $15 w/s&h. If you have a Nordstroms or Bed Bath and Beyond near you, I've heard that they carry some good shaving creams and aftershaves, you could probably get samples from there as well. Taylor is another good brand to look out for. Once you have a good brush, cream and aftershave (and a mug/bowl of some type). Give wetshaving a shot with your regular cartridge razor, and you will automatically notice the difference. Make sure to watch the intro videos that I posted in the OP to get an understanding of the whole thing. If you decide to advance to a single blade double edge razor, you can go fourth and do so, like I have. I used to shave once every two weeks because I hated it so much, I eventually stopped shaving and just trimmed my beard with a trimmer. The irritation and razor burns were hell for me, but now, I want to shave every day because it just feels so refreshing.

I never use electric well not for the last 30 years or so. It burns and leaves little red bumps on my neck. A nice brush and some gel with a twin or triple blade safety razor does the trick for me. Don't turn corners on your face though, ouch! I can shave manually much faster than I can with electric.

I use a straight razor. its worth it in the end, plus IMO its ****in manly. my dad tought me and he has never used anything but straight razors his whole life. with the cost of blades for a fusion, its worth it.

My facial hair doesnt grow in all that thick anyway... I mean hell I wish I new how to use a str8 edge, I need to grow a beard & go to a shaving parlor and have a nice str8 edge shave. Anyhow I mean since my hair doesnt grow in that thick I dont usually worry about it.
