Any tax Pro's here? HELP! :)
Uncle Sam doesn't even have the courtesy to give me a reach around.
I am single, no kids, but I do have a house. I make too much for the G-Dub stimulus payment and also make too much to claim the interest on my (significant) student loans. While working on my TurboTax, I noticed that my folks could pay my student loans and something good might happen. Is there a way around this interest BS? Can I give my pops 6 large in cash every year, let him pay my loans and let him claim the interest? *Because my mom doesnt work, I have a little brother, and my dad makes just over 6, he qualifies to claim interest (if it was his loan). |

You're wise to call a tax professional/accountant in your area and start building a relationship for the longer term. They can give you advice for your current situation and help plan for the future.

+1. It is always best to make friends with an accountant rather than buying turbo tax or something. The accountants know about grants and ect that you can apply for. -Sean

You could always give the pops 6 large and he won't have to pay tax on it. Gifts are tax free up to like 11k. I'm not sure if he could claim the loan interest though since it is not in his name.
