Alienware

Does anyone work for Alienware..? I'm looking to purchase a ~$3000 system from them but they want to charge me over $200 for shipping. Has anyone purchased a system from them and been able to recieve free shipping? I just ordered a Sony Vaio laptop a few months ago and they threw in overnight shipping from CA for free!

Alienware's are nice, but in all honesty a bit expensive. Building your own computer is not very hard. I built mine and looking to build another soon. A custom home built computer for $3000 would be insane.

Alienware overchargers for everything they build.

You could save ALOT of money by building your own system.

Its probably been 10 years since I've built a desktop but nowadays its just easier for me to customize it.. The system was only $2100 but with a 24" monitor and taxes + shipping, it added up quickly!

Build your own system with someone to guide you. You'll save a bundle.

have a pc savvy friend build you the pc then. thats what i did a couple years ago. $1200 for a p4 3.4, 2 gigs ram, 300 gb hd, 6800 gtx vid card, etc. then i bought a $300 19" lcd. so for half of what you're looking to spend and i have a decent pc that still plays just about everything.

I need a desktop to play FSX and some other games, I already have 3 laptops but with 128mb video card its hard to play 90% of the games that are out today.

Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8400 3.00GHz 6MB Cache 1333MHz FSB
Alienware P2 Chassis: Alienware® P2 Chassis with AlienIce™ 3.0 Video Cooling - Space Black
System Lighting: Alienware® Standard System Lighting - Astral Blue
System Cooling: Alienware® Standard System Cooling
Power Supply: Alienware® 750 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply
Graphics Processor: Single Graphics Card - 512MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 GT
Memory: 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 x 1024MB
Motherboard: Alienware® Approved NVIDIA® nForce 680i SLI Motherboard
Operating System (Office software not included): Windows Vista® Home Premium – DirectX 10 Ready!
Desktop Tuners and Remotes: Without Media Center Remote Control
System Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 16MB Cache
Optical Drives : Single Drive Configuration - 20X Dual-Layer Burner (DVD±RW)
Enthusiast Essentials: Dual High Performance Gigabit Ethernet Ports
Sound Card: High-Definition 7.1 Performance Audio

Monitor: 24'' Samsung 1920 x 1200 (5ms) SyncMaster Widescreen Flat Panel - $470

3Ghz CPU, 4MB ram, 512 video card, 500GB HD, $1500 thats not bad imo. I'm sure I could build a system for a few hundred less.

I would say build your own computer, beef up the cooling and overclock it. I got a much better computer for much less money than what alienware offers. I got a 120mm "big typhoon" cpu cooler and I overclock ~30% with my cpu temp the same as stock speed stock cooler. My comp was about $1900 8 months ago and it gets 5.9 in every area on vista rating except one, it gets a 5.6 or 5.7 on cpu performance. If you were going to spend 3k on a computer you could get something much better than what you listed from alienware.

I've had two Alienware's in the past. One desktop and one laptop, and I loved them. You all are forgetting pretty much one thing when building your own computer: Warranty.

Alienware's come with a warranty, I'm not sure how long. If anything is wrong, you call and get help and they will sit on the phone for hours with you to fix the problem and guide you through whatever problems you encounter. They even helped me RAID 0 two harddrive I never even bought through them.

To the OP, I can't help with your problem, but if you don't want to build your own system - don't.

He said 1500, not 3000...
