Smile Bought engagement ring today. Proposing this Friday!!

wow, I can't believe I'm gonna do this. I've put this off long enough for no reason whatsoever. Anyway, I bought a real nice diamond ring today. Been with my gf for about 6.5 years now. She's great, and I love her very very much. For the last few years, we've been going to watch fireworks on july 4th by my old house. We will do the same this year, except I will propose to her near the end of the big finale. Then we will go to a friend's house (BBQ) to celebrate. I'll probably have some nice flowers and some champagne waiting for her.

What do you guys think? Please don't tell me to take her out to a nice restaurant. Yaaaaaaawn. That is so played out. I want to be original and spontaneous.

Awesome! Depends on what your girl prefers, but you should know her by now so I'm sure your plan will be to her liking. The only part I wonder about is celebrating at your friend's barbecue. Do they know about the plan or will you possibly steal their hosting thunder?

Congratulations! I think your plan sounds very romantic and memorable. I agree with the idea to propose right before the finale. My daughter got engaged last Monday, we took her and her boyfriend to Cozumel with us and he proposed while there in front of a beautiful fountain. Shes very excited, I'm a bit freaked out..shes my baby. Congratulations again.

thanks for your responses guys.

The area that we're going to watch the fireworks has a big lake plus some "beach" areas. I'm thinking about getting one of those foot paddle boats so we can have some privacy. Or should I just do it on the beach (with a whole mess of people around though)??

That is awesome man! In my opinion that is an amazing place to propose. Fireworks in the background the sound of people cheering. It will be awesome! Good luck!

take her to a nice restaurant man.

I'm kidding.

Good luck man.

I proposed to my wife up in the mountains on December 25th.
Thought if I'll do it on the snow she'll understand why I'm not taking a knee.
But then I dropped the ring in the snow and had to get down on my knees to looks for it anyway

Hey congrats dude, wish you two all the luck (and love) in the world. If I can give you any advice (like it matters coming from a perfect stranger), from that point forward, never EVER go to bed angry. Whatever it is, was, or will be just let it be... the next day is always a new day.

Hey, I did I see something about a lake there and little boats? It'd be cool if you could have the flowers, champagne and of course chocolates waiting in the boat, then just manage to 'happen' to make it to the 'magical' boat as the sun sets. Save the ring, go out for a little paddle and let her think that the flowers, boat, etc, are the big surprise, just because you care... THEN just as you're coming back to the beach and the celebration is about to begin, pop the question and enjoy the fireworks along with the bubbly.

Congrats dude!!!

Random proposals FTW! IMO its hotter, and more romantic than a fancy restaurant w/ the old ring in the champagne class.
