Advice about watches

I decided to buy a watch, at this point in time I can’t afford a very expensive watch such as an omega (which is my fav) but I narrowed it down to a couple that I like. I have my heart set on the Armani right now unless someone can tell me otherwise. My budget is no more than $300.

So my questions are:

What is the difference in quality of different companies? Armani vs Fossil Vs Seiko ?

What should I look for when buying a watch? I know that the face should be scratch resistant, stainless steel metal, waterproof… these features seem to be standard in most $100+ watches.

When buying a watch, does the price tag reflect mostly the name brand or does the quality you get change drastically?

Keep in mind that I know almost nothing about this subject. I appreciate any advice from people who know watches. I want to buy it now so “save up for a better watch” is not an option.

Armani is just the name, someone else makes it for them. Seiko makes a nice watch as well. Another good place to look for nice watches is a pawn shop. I know is sounds strange, but there are some nice watches there

Seiko FTW. I've had mine for nearly 6 years, now. Retail was $280 for a gorgeous Chronograph. Got mine for $180, authentic. Just good timing, whole bunch of deals & discounts stacked on top of each other. I love it.

do you want the watch or the name? A Rolex is nice and will last forever, so will Seiko and Bulova, it just tells time. You would think my watch is $3000 from the way it shines and look

You live in socal. Go to the jewelry district and hook it up. You will save anywhere from 40-60% off retail. Trust me...don't bother with retail outlets or even mail order. If you pay cash, you get an even better deal.

St Vincent's Jewelry building on 7th and Hill downtown.

Nothing strange about it. That's where the crackheads take the sh1t they stole to get their next fix.

I've had good experience with www.bluedial.com. I am a fan of Seiko myself (and Tag) and this website you can actually get better deals on than I got when I was in the Carribean on a previous watch.

tissot's are well made but might be just out of your price range. Also depends if you are looking for a well made watch or more of a stylish time piece. Tissot's offer both but can be low in price to over $1200.
