Makarov 9.mm

So a friend of mine wants to buy a hand gun and he was telling me he's thinking of getting the Makarov 9.mm. Now I know a bit about hand guns (better at machine guns) but how good is the Makarov 9.mm? and what would you suggest as a better alternative hand gun?

Sigs . But figured if the interested party wanted to by a Markov, a fine "import" like a Sig is probably out of their price range.

TBH I'm not sure why he choose a Makarov, but where he is currently located (Yemen) all they've got on offer are some pretty old guns and lots of AK-47s.

The Makarov does look a bit outdated, so I might advise him to change.

Oh and thanks for the feedback.....I should have figured that you two would have been one of the first to reply and I was right lol.....I expected Kuneff to be on here as well (he's probably in a class or something)

I wouldn't call any firearm "outdated" unless you can't get ammunition for it anymore.

Gun's aren't like cars; they don't become useless after 10 years, etc. Fifty year old guns (if properly maintained) are just as effective and reliable as a brand new weapon. Therefore, don't worry about a gun being old, or looking old. They're all just as effective as putting warm lead onto whatever you'd want to put it onto.

Me too! For sure! But if someone's overseas and can't get them, there's no reason to lack confidence in an older weapon.

I've got my Great Grandfather Hi-Standard training pistol he used in the 1920's. It still shoots great.

I have a glock 23c and S&W Sigma go with one of those, you can get the smith used for under $300. With the glock you get a great gun, the Makarov which I have shot is ok, but it does not use normal 9mm rounds

If he wants something cheap and reliable, get a Taurus. They all come with a lifetime warranty. I've got a 24/7 Pro .40 that's been flawless.
