Next Gen M to Bow at PB Concours D'Elegance...in Digital 3D

August 14th debut.
That's a way to make an entrance...I guess.
August 14th debut.
It looks like Bentley won't be the only ones debuting a new car at Pebble Beach next month. We've heard from Infiniti that the next-generation M will debut as well, though in a rather unique way.
Because Infiniti apparently won't have a fully-built show car ready yet, the company is instead bringing a foam model that has the exact same dimensions of the real car. This, in and of itself, is not unusual. What's different is that Infiniti has paired with several vendors who work with 3-D modeling and projections and who have come up with a system that will project a digital rendering of the new M onto the mold.
What's more, the CAD Data Model projection will feature moving projected wheels and will be paired with a moving background, so it will actually look as though the new M is not only present but driving around without ever leaving the stage.
Unfortunately, this was all the information Infiniti had for us at the moment, so we'll have to wait until next month to find out what changes have been made and what the new car looks like (pictured above is the current Infiniti M35). Stay tuned...

Same as I loved the previous gen. I'm guessing it won't be a game changer but Infiniti will definitely be a big time player (again) in the premium mid-size market. I wouldn't be surprised if it grows in length a bit. I expect a plenty of Essence cues, some Infiniti-interpreted Maserati cues, and a quality interior (maybe even more than the FX). After all, the M is the current "flagship".
