There is a lot of helpful information for you here. I advise you to go back and look at the past post of this subject. The more information you have, the better off you will be! Pay, particular attention to V35 Skyline GT and mine as we are both professional technicians also.

I pulled my car out of the garage this weekend for a few hours and then moved it back. The next morning it smoked a small amount at startup and a clicking noise came from the engine for a few seconds. This morning I checked the oil and it was fine, startup was good (no smoke or noise), oil level was close to the high mark. I'm at 5k on my current synth, so it appears I'm not burning oil. Mileage is at 66k. Any other ideas?

Usually when a little smoke (blue) comes out on start-up from sitting for awhile, that means some oil seeped into combustion chambers from valve guide seals. If white smoke, coolant seeped in c/c's from head gasket.

Ticking for a few seconds, valve-train noise and/or hydraulic lifters until oil got pumped there to lubricate. All I can think of from your descipt.

Very little OC looking at stick and 5K on oil, good deal. Your VQ is a non-revup DE longblock b/c yours is an 5AT.

Hoped that help.
