LOTS of water on inside of windshield

I recently noticed some swirls of condensation on the inside of my windshield. It didn't look too out of the ordinary, but definitely noticeably different than regular condensation. Then, this past week after a VERY hard rain, I came out to my car to find a sheet of water on the inside of my windshield. It was so bad that I couldn't even see out the car. I began to wipe it down with a shirt that was in my car but there was so much water that even this wouldn't get rid of it. Nothing was dripping or anything, it looked almost like a greenish sheet of ice.

My questions are...

1. What could be causing this? I can't see any noticeable cracks in the glass or space between the seals.

2. Can I get a new windshield through insurance even though there are no cracks etc? I'd really rather not take a baseball bat to my baby.

3. ^^ If not, and there is something inherently wrong with my windshield, how can I possibly recreate this for the dealer?

sit inside the car and have someone with a garden hose spray water around the windshield. slowly work around the edge of the windshield. do you use the sunroof? check that too to see if water is leaking form there down on to the windshield

Check your weather stripping all around the windsheild and your door jambs.

It may not be a leak at all. It could be condensation, especially after a hard rain. Water can form a film over the surface, even a vertical surface, without dripping. I would suspect this, especially if the air inside the car was warmer than the temperature of the rain hitting the windshield. Warm air can hold more moisture than cold.

Windshield cools down, water vapor in the interior air condenses against the cold surface of the windshield, and you have the condition.

We see it a lot in the winter here, except that it actually freezes on the inside of the windshield.
