There is a difference. Dealer extended warranties, or ones you can buy from places like credit unions, are real extended warranties.

Some of the ones advertised on TV (stoprepairbills.com for example), aren't actually extended warranties. To skirt some consumer protection laws, they do stuff like actually sell you a product (oil additive?), and piggy back on that. Meaning they don't have to refund your money if you change your mind. I don't know all the specifics, but they have a bad reputation even for warranties.

Right now I think U.S. Fidelis is under a Federal investigations in regards to their practices. Also there is action taking place against those that have been offering services through the phone and I believe through the mail as well. I prefer purchasing services like this through the credit unions since they usually will handle problems from rouge venders.

asitmc...IMO, it depends on a couple things. How deep your pockets are and if you plan on doing any mods. If you have deep pockets, then get it for piece of mind. If you dont and have a limited budget for your mods...you'll probably wish you had that money to cover your mods.
