PLEASE HELP STEER ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION BEFORE I START FORKING OUT $$$

04 G35 2DR (135K) DIES RIGHT AFTER STARTING, I WILL HAVE TO GIVE IT SOME GAS SO IT DOESNT DIE AFTER STARTING UP!

ENGINE CODE: P0430
CAT SYS EFF BELOW THRESHOLD BANK2

G NEVER CUT OFF WHILE DRIVING HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR 2 WEEKS NOW.

MODS:
Z TUBE, Motordyne 5/16 Plenum Spacer, FAST INT Y-PIPE, AAM CATS BOUGHT USED HAD ON THE G FOR 3 YEARS, BLK BETTY GROUNDING CABLE

**ALL THESE LITTLE MODS I HAD FOR OVER 3 YEARS
**DO I NEED TO CHANGE MY CAMSHAFT SENSOR BESIDE THE CATS

Your best bet is to research through the factory service manual (under DIY) and follow the troubleshooting guide for startup issues.

 

Why are you shouting?

You've got a vehicle that is over ten years old.
Have you followed the troubleshooting steps in the FSM
You've got mods that would make normal FSM troubleshooting difficult.
Remove them all and start troubleshooting with a completely stock vehicle.
I suspect most dealers would refuse to even have a look at your vehicle with all those mods and even if they did they would probably add a troubleshooting labor surcharge.

Hey vashawn, the code you are posting means that the cat is no longer working efficiently as it used to. This normally wouldn't be the cause of the car to just shut off, but these g35's are a electronic mystery so I would look into that cat anyways. However so, does your startup only isolate "starting and holding your idle"? Basically I'm asking, once you start moving does this issue go away, like can you drive the car without further issues and then when you come to a stop light does your car remain in and continue to idle properly?

 

LOL....my bad with the caps im at work and i type with caps on.
Why would i remove all the mods and start over I had all these mods for about 3 years without any issues until now.
Im not going to get into it with you cause this is not the only G that is somewhat mod driving around as a daily driver

I just order the Berks HFC. new plugs cause ots been like 4 years sice i had replace them. I will let a local shop check out the coils and maf and do a tune

 

4 years on spark plugs?.... i think your car is kinda pissed at you for not taking care of her and that was her way of telling you that LOL.
sound like you are doing the right thing now. hopefully those steps will solve your prolem.

Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that plugs in our car are pretty finicky if A: you don't use the proper plug B: if they get to old.

I think you are on the right track but keep in mind that losing startup can mean anything, it could be fuel, electrical, sensors, heck it can be a lot of things. But cleaning the MAF, spark plugs, Obviously replacing the cats which are the code in question. and then try resetting the ECU, if you do all of those things, at least you will be maintaining the car and troubleshooting without large expense.

Anyway, keep us updated I am really curious to hear the outcome..

 

Idle holds once im driving! Its when i start up it struggle to stay on the car will just die.
I would have to give It some gas and its fine!
So I did change my plugs last night which I was surprise that it was normal wear. There was signs of oil leakage anywhere!
Cleaned the MAF and throttle, dis. the battery for few hrs and did a relearn.
So this morning living in NYC with this bipolar weather I did not use my auto start I manual started the G.
Upon starting the idle needle will drop close to 0 while struggling for a sec. to stay on.
The G did not cut off today upon starting.
Im still waiting for my berks to come in. I know the cats has nothing to do with this but I have to still change them due to the famous p0430 code.
After goggling and searching and what im reading about previous thread G's cutting off on start up.............
I have a feeling I will have to change my crank sensor even though there s no code pulling,

I will post a video of the start up later today!

UPDATE 4/23
Still having the same issue. On start up the car will just die.
So far I installed new plugs and berks HFC w/new 02 sensors.
G has been running for 1 week now with NO ENGINE CODES.

The only thing that may be bad is the MAF sensor. I cleaned it but same problem.
My boy has a 06Gmt so im going to swap out the MAF this sun.

So i cleaned the MAF, same problem!
Swap the MAF w.my boys from his 06 mt and same problem!
G will just die when starting.
So with everything that I read im changing the 2 cam sen behind the fire wall.

For u guys that changed there cam sen, did u use OEM our aftermarket? what site/company?
