Took my G to VIR a couple weeks ago
Enjoy....
I had someone else filming, too so I sync'd and combined the video where possible.
=1st half of it has music
=2nd half is just wind/engine
=Skip the first 30sec if you dont want to see what's leaving the pit
=M3 with blown engine stuck on track around 9:45
My car:
2006 G35 Coupe 6MT
Mods:
MREV2
5/16" ISO Spacer
Equipment:
All-Season tires (stock size on OEM 19's)
EBC Yellowstuff pads/brembo vented rotors (Front)
EBC Redstuff pads/brembo vented rotors (rear)
Motul 600 Synthetic Brake Fluid in brake/clutch
Comments:
Brake Pads:
I started off with Redstuff pads all around (my street set up). They were fine for about 2 laps and then they got too hot and faded. I was worried I hadnt bled the brakes well enough (I had flushed the system the day before), but as soon as I put on the yellows everything was wonderful. They didnt fade at all the whole weekend and had more bite. The yellows are semi metallic though and dirty up the wheels so I switched back to the reds after the event. I didnt bother with the rears, I may buy a set for next time though.
VDC:
Should go without saying, but leaving this on is ridiculous on the track, the car is very stable and easy to control without it. (What does this turn off/leave on?? TC?).
Track:
On a good lap I was hitting 125mph on both the front and back straights and 110mph on the uphill esses.

It was a lot of fun! I'll probably be back there in November. If your screen name is from your school, you should head up there some time, its pretty close to RTP (~1hr away).
HPDEs are probably the most fun you'll ever (legally) have in your car. I'd prefer to be out there on Summer tires, but I went with what I had.

Yup, all stock (6MT sport) except the MREV2/spacer combo. I prefer the stock setup because its a good balance between luxury and performance. I figure I'm only at the track 1-3 weekends a year, the rest of the time I'm tooling around town.
To be honest, I'd like to get a second set of wheels. Square setup with 18's. 19's are nice looking, but I think 18's (or even 17s) are more practical on the racetrack. Then I could put some R compounds on them instead of having my highly compromising All Season tires.

tbh I feel the stock has too much body roll :/ but that's just me because of i do a lot of spirited driving. as for wheels. I changed the oem 17's for the 19's and it feels a lot better. the forged wheels definitely feel lighter just by holding them. and they're wider wheels. i guess people can say the 17's are faster since the rotational distance is shorter but it evens out with skinnier tires, just more harsher
(that's probably for a reason)

Thanks for the redstuff vs yellow stuff info. I was trying to decide between the two for the occasional trackday in my S5. How is the dust and noise?
Your stock rims are pretty light Rays forged, but smaller 18"s may give more options for sticky tires.
I had 18x8 square setup on my G35 sedan with 350z suspension and it really helped cut understeer and body roll.
