RUST on an 8 year old car? 07 G35X
Im Sorta new to this so i thought it would be better to start a post here in "The G Spot" my cars rusting in Toronto, Canada. Its underneath towards the front of the car in the wheel wells or whatever i see a lot of rust forming on the parts of the car. I will attach pics too is this normal? & will it cost a lot to have it repaired. I want to replace whats damaged

i could be wrong but looks like exhaust and subframe brace. exhaust will probably go not a bad time to upgrade. the brace doesnt have to be replaced its thick metal can be sand blasted and powdercoated to prevent further rust. probably while they are down there get some undercoating sprayed on to prevent anything in the future, know canada can be pretty rough with cars. buddy of mine says he gets a new car every 8-10 years to not have to deal with anything going bad up there.

Do you live in an area where they salt the roads in the winter? Do you live by the sea?
That's a lot of rust, but it is eight years.
I remember in the sixties, they didn't even offer a rust penetration warranty, most cars down here on the coast were already showing bubbles under the paint in a year and a half.

(Off topic) I was planning on upgrading to a Q50 after my few years with the G but after all the bad things ive heard about it i think i will just go up to the Q70 instead. Especially since i heard its the most hackable car ever.

I'd say that's normal rust for an 8 year old car driven in the salt belt. The only rust of concern is really on the exhaust. The structural part is just surface rust.
You can see your cat heat shields are rusting out, and will begin to rattle/buzz at some point. These can be ripped off.
Other than that, short of replacing the entire exhaust (well over $1K) you just gotta live with it and keep an ear out for leaks. If the exhaust ever sounds different or louder, you prob have a flange that has rusted out. Any muffler shop can weld in a patch.

if these cars were made to last forever, Infiniti would have very few new cars to sell. It's true that these cars develop more rust over the years than comparable German cars but that has always been the case. Japanese cars tend to rust faster than a lot of their counterparts in my experience.
My 04 has a few more "rough spots" than I would like on the underside. I just cover it up with por15 paint. I don't believe por15 is a rust cure but at least it sticks very well and lasts a lot longer than regular aerosol paint and makes it look better.
If you change your own oil, bring a small batch of por15 and a foam brush and cover up the rust sports. If the miles rack up faster than the rust spreads, I don't think there is a need to worry.
