* Concerns for my 08 sedan *

Hello all,

My 08 G sedan has approximately 29k mi. and has had no major issues so far other some interior noises, vibration in the passenger seat, etc. I drive my car pretty conservatively other than some occasional spirited driving.

Maybe starting about a month ago, whenever I start my car and put my car in reverse, I feel a sudden big jerk from my transmission. It feels as if the transmission kicking into Reverse from Park is changing gears very harshly. In addition, it seems like the jerk is more harsh when the car is cold. But sometimes, the car jerks still pretty hard even when my car is warmed up.. just not as harsh as when it's cold.

Does anyone else experience this?!
Should this be something I should be really concerned about?

I just would like to confirm that I am not causing any damage to my transmission..

Any feedback or advice is appreciated!

Thanks.

I have the same issue especialy when im shifting from Park to Drive when the motor's cold and warm. I always make a complete stop when shifting to avoid any damage to the transmission or rear differential.

I have an 08 XS and haven't noticed this effect and the weather has turned cold.

What I would pay attention to is the RPM prior to putting it in reverse. It may be that jerk you feel is the idle speed being a little bit too high when can indicated a need to go in and have it checked under warranty (which I can see one of the items that can affect the idle speed is your aftermarket intake). If you can, use an OBD reader and see if any codes have been generated. If it is related to your intake then I would consider taking care of that problem somewhere other than the dealer (unless it was the dealer who installed it).

^ or reinstall stock intakes and if the problem persists leave car with stock intakes and take to dealer else you know what to do ...

Since he has a Stillen version 3 he may want to just grab the codes (if any) and see what can done about it. It may be as simple as doing an idle relearn which is a lot easier than taking a Stillen 3 system on and off. Also it may just possibly show up once more upon the reinstall.

Do you think resetting the ECU might change anything? I highly doubt it b/c I've had the intake in the car for ~10k mi. already..

Also do you guys think this is causing any significant damage to my tranny?

Thanks for the feedbacks guys.

You never stated what your RPM is when you put it in reverse.

it is normal IF you're on P, you shift to R and you're on a sloped surface.

So you are saying that the slope of his parking spot has changed over the last couple of months?

^ I experience the abrupt shift not only on sloped surface but flat surface as well.

BTW My car idles at around 700-800rpm when warmed up which seems normal to me.

no, that's what you assumed I said
I'm saying "IF", so as long as it's NOT sloped, it's NOT normal.

Unfortunately this happens no matter if I am parked sloped or on flat surface.

Am I causing any serious damage to my transmission when this occurs?

I experience it every now and then and never thought much of it. Nearly all our previous Nissan's did the same. Never really had any problems other than the jerk. On the G, i haven't noticed it since my AT fluid flush, however.

I really want to take the car into the dealership.. but I know when I do take it in, I won't really be able to replicate the problem b/c my car will be warmed up already by the time I get there. On top of that, damn dealership will refuse to provide any warranty service w/o the problem occurring right infront of them.
