5AT manual shift tricks

Hi, guys,
Mine is a 5AT coupe first time on manual shift without clutch, I am wondering if any one here has better shifting tricks make our 5ATs more aggressive, when I first test drive the car, the dealer done a "kick down" shift seemed pretty impreesive but I just don't know how...Also, do you want to to manually down shift when slowing down or just let the AT take over?

Definitely let the car automatically shift it down if you're coming to a stop. The manual mode is not well-tuned for normal driving, and will clunk pretty hard if you downshift it yourself while coasting to a stop, especially at the lowest gears.

For aggressive driving, don't downshift until you're ready to stomp the gas pedal. Brake in the taller gear before the turn, then stomp/tap-down simultaneously and power through it. Also, you should try to visualize yourself as taking it OUT of gear when you do the tap, rather than throwing it into gear. Otherwise your timing will be off and you'll be sitting there waiting for the car to catch up with you.

actually, just dont let the car shift from 2 to 1, it doesnt like it. It is ok to let it shift from 3 to 1 though. What I do is if I am in 2 and know I am stopping, I just shift it up to 3 before I stop and all is fine. Other than that I usualy downshift manualy at about 11-1200 rpms and its pretty good.

Or pull it into "drive" before you come to a full stop.

Re: 5AT manual shift tricks

one thing i don't like about when i switch D to MM is if i switch to MM like around 10-20mph car jerks really bad which car downshift to 1st instead of staying at 2nd gear... does anybody know why transmission downshift by 1 gear whenever i change to MM from D?

Re: 5AT manual shift tricks

Normaly it will shift to a proper gear depends on your speed and, it will select 1 gear lower than at auto model i think this is normal, it similar to the "kick down methode" that my dealer teached me,and this will give you more "push" at you back, mine is doing the same thing, but if your sawp to MM at 40 mph but still at 1st or 2nd then you have to have it check by your dealer.
Hope this helps

It AUTOMATICALLY downshifts a gear in man. mode as a sign that you're probably about to NAIL IT! I actually like that feature a LOT- especially on the hiway!.
