Who would win.......a 5AT or a apr chipped 1.8T 03 jetta manual ? My buddy seems to think that with just a chip thats giving him 220hp he is going to go from low 15's to high 13's. All opinions welcome.

 

ricer math.... He probably told you it added fifty horsepower too.... If he only has a chip he will go from low fifteens.. to well, probably low fifteens... I would be surprised if he would get into even the fourteens with that simple little mod. If thats all he has, your going to win.

 

Back when I was 'shopping around'', I drove the Jetta 1.8T.
It really is a great car, and very fun to drive!
I would respect someone who went that route, but
for me . . . .
I'm awaiting the 05 G35c.
I am sure the G35c is a superior and faster car.

 

Ok hold on let me collect myself from laughing so hard because I have a roomate with the same belief. The APR "wonder chip" for his GTi 1.8T. All he talks about since I smoked on him so bad it was crazy. He claims they add "50 hp" but all it does is prevent the wastegate from opening for an additional 1000-1500 rpms. In other words, over boosting the puny little excuse for a stock turbo. This is the basic "change" for the 225 hp version of an audi TT vs the normal 180 hp TT version. We smoke both, and a Jetta with that is going to be exactly the same. Laugh and remind him once he gets the chip, he needs the $49.99 generic aluminum pepboys wing to keep his rear wheels to the ground. =)

Let me give you all the straight poop on this motor because I drove one in my Audi A4 for four years.

I had the Wetterauer chip which took my then, 150 HP engine, to right around 200 HP. Let me tell you, this thing flat out flew compared to the stock engine. It brings the psi to one full bar. I couldn't keep my wheels from spinning, in 1st AND 2nd gear. So before blasting this thing as a gimmick, think again.

Now, would it beat the G? Hell no. But it did knock about a full second off my 0-60, and if I was in the right gear with that turbo spooling, you'd probably take a couple of seconds to catch up because this thing would throw your head back pretty good. My 0-60 was in the upper 6, maybe 7 tops. Kills I had under my belt included a late model Maxima, Ford Focus SVT, all kinds of Eclipses ( I don't know why they always wanted to play), a 6 cylinder late model Camaro, well you get the idea.

I'm not claiming this thing was a rocketship but for $500 chipping that 1.8T is the single most cost effective bang for your buck mod I've ever seen. Completely transformed that little motor. They make a stage II turbo for it as well that'll take you on up another 50 HP. Put the right tires on that baby and yes, it would take the G.

no....the car will get much much faster but it will not hang with the g35. as you can see by the link below it will get to 204hp witht the chip. but wow, jettas only weigh like 2800-2900 lbs. maybe your right. that is really light. if they get a stage two or three upgrade maybe it will smoke the g35.

i can't imagine spinning the wheels on an A4 in first and second with only 200hp, and a 0-60 in 6-7 secs. that sounds like you need to get rid of your baby-bottom-smooth tires.

other than that, i'd imagine that a chip would, at best, get him in the mid-high 14s.

 

It dont find it hard to belive the a chip giving the car 50hp. I know my cousin got a nu-speed chip for his S4 and that gave him 50hp and it was dyno tested. However I dont think the chip gave him 50hp since his is a 4banger but maybe it gave him close to more like 30hp. So you will have the upper hand still.

 

I currently drive a jetta 1.8t.. i ordered my white g35 but i have test drove it .. and have driven my friend's 350z..

im sure g35 will win.
i've taken my jetta to the max before.. it's not that fast
and its a 4 cyl. afterall...

I raced a Jetta the other night. Couldn't tell if he was chipped or modded but he could've been a sleeper. I passed him going about 80 and apparently that bothered him so he comes blowing past me at about 100 (no flames about street racing please).

I decide to mess with him. When it comes to 'street racing' I don't really race. My philosophy is that this jerk made this huge effort to get in front of me so I'm going to put the pressure on him to stay in front. I came up on his bumper going about 110 and stayed on his ***. He was moving pretty well so I assume he was modded.

Anyway, we both slow down b/c there was a speed trap coming up. When we saw no cops we went at it again. He had a half second jump on me. I was with my GF and her cousin and I'm a fairly big boy so you figure I had an extra 300 lbs. vs this skinny kid in the Jetta. Anyway, I was in MM 3rd and I had my foot to the floor. I started to redline so I shifted to 4th. I was gaining on him but very very slowly. We both had to stop b/c some cars were coming up but I would've probably needed another half mile or so to just even get my nose ahead of his.

300lbs is a lot man....the 350Z weighs 215lbs less than a G35 and it posts at least .5 sec faster in 0-60 and at least .4 sec quicker in the 1/4 mi.

 

the G should win but apr chip will do wonders for the jetta. just bought the apr 3 program chip for my car...hopefully i'll be able the knock down .8 - 1 second off my 1/4. 307 hps / 366 torque
