G35 Rear Bumper Repaint Darker?!

**UPDATE WITH PICTURES ON PAGE 3**

Hey guys,

Some lady backed into me last week and scratched up my bumper, anyways i called up my infiniti dealer and they told me to take it to a certain body shop around the area thats certified by them. Long story short i picked up my car today and it seems as if the rear bumper looks darker than the rest of the car, i know paint adheres to plastic and metal differently but its really bugging me, ill try to post pics tomorrow since its dark out. Is this darker shade normal? If any of you with DG coupes could post a pic of the rear bumper and quarter panel together so i could compare it would be awesome!

Based on what I've read here, a good shop should be able to match the paint. You have an 05 so I'm not too sure if you'll have a paint-fade problem.

yeah when I had my car repainted it was very slightly darker but not even noticable, honestly I could even say it's a near 100% match, but yeah your bodyshop looks like they didn't do a good job matching..

oh yea, bad color matching indeed.

Look in the second pic you can easily tell. No doubt about it.

Good luck!

Body shop didnt know how to match the paint.. take it back.
I had my plastic bumper and fiber glass skirts match perfectly w my car.

The bumper is plastic and fenders are metal. Also your car color gets lighter from sun.
The shop should still know how to get atleast a close match.

Why should you pay for their mistake? or crappy job? Take it back. If they cant fix it ask for your money to take it to someone who can.

OP...I never thought highly of Holmes Body Shop. I've take my car to Marcos Auto Body out in San Gabriel and I've referred many to them with excellent results. Definitely take it back to Holmes and have them redo it. If they can't or won't, let your insurance know and they'll take care of it.

Redo! This problem happen to my Kuruma when I first got it. The shop I went to was suppose to be top notch but the color was slightly off. Me being me, had the shop redo it. Now it is perfectly matched.

Yes that is some thing that needs to be fixed.

Im a painter so I just want to say your right in the fact that paint will look different on plastic from metal. Because of static that will make the paint dry at a different rate making the metalic look differnt. On top of the fact that it will look different you all so have the fact that there are 20+ different paint lines out there and your car has been in the sun, ect, ect

BUT there are things a good painter will do to fix that.
1) Do test panels with the color to pick the best match before painting the part.
2) Tint the color as needed to adjust to the paint thats on the car. Just because the color is close dos not mean the side tone will be.
3)On plastic you can all so us a anti-static cleaner to help it dry at a different rate, givingit more time to "lay down" the way it needs to
4)BLEND BLEND BLEND. Some times with some colors and paint lines you just cant get the color a 100% So you get the color as close as you can and then blend it. For you that would be painting the bumper and then painting half your quarter panels and then clearing them. I can post pictures of what I mean if you need me to
