It took my shifter a while to loosen up, but the button did require more pressure to release the shift lock mechanism. The reason is that I was still using the white stock plastic piece (from 03), and it was about 2 mm taller than I would like. However, I couldn't grind it down any further without losing structural strength.
Fitting a shift boot will depend on the year of your car. I had to do more work with the 03. This was the final product:

I have no problems shifting it in and out of gear. The button does have to be pushed a little bit more than the original oem one.

Sorta off topic, has anyone used a spring adapter to use any shifter knob? Would any adapter work on it? Cause I saw this and this made me wonder how was this one done. Is this anyone's auto shifter on here?
